Chapter 4: The Confession in a Dream
第四章:夢中懺悔
4.1The bodhisattva Ruciraketu then went to sleep and in a dream saw a golden drum that was shining like the disk of the sun. In all directions there were countless, innumerable buddha bhagavats seated upon precious beryl thrones at the foot of precious wish-fulfilling trees, encircled by assemblies of many hundreds of thousands. Looking straight ahead, they were teaching the Dharma.
4.1菩薩妙幡於是就睡著了。在夢中,他看到一面金色的鼓,閃閃發光如同太陽的圓盤。在四面八方,無數無量的佛薄伽梵坐在珍寶琉璃座上,位於珍寶如意樹的樹下,被成千上萬的大眾圍繞著。他們面向前方,正在說法。
4.2Then he saw a person who appeared to be a brahmin beating that drum, and he heard a teaching in verse come from the drumbeats.
4.2然後他看見一個婆羅門的形象在敲打那面鼓,他聽到鼓聲中傳出以偈頌形式的教法。
4.3As soon as the bodhisattva Ruciraketu awoke from his sleep, he remembered the verses that were taught. Having remembered them, when the night was over, he left the city of Rājagṛha, and together with many thousands of people he went to Vulture Peak Mountain and into the presence of the Bhagavat. He bowed down to the feet of the Bhagavat and circumambulated the Bhagavat three times, keeping him to his right, and then sat down to one side.

4.4Seated to one side, the bodhisattva Ruciraketu, with his palms together in homage, bowed toward the Bhagavat and recited the teaching in verse that he had heard from the sound of the drum in his dream.

“One night, though I was not「有一夜,雖然我並未
Sleepy, I entered a dream.我雖然睡意濃濃,卻進入了夢境。
I saw a large, beautiful drum我看到一面巨大、美妙的鼓
Entirely of golden light.完全由金光明構成。
“It was shining like the sun它發光地像太陽一樣
And completely bright,完全光明燦爛。
Illuminating the ten directions.照亮十方。
I saw buddhas everywhere,我看見諸佛遍滿各處,
“Seated beneath precious trees坐在寶樹下
On precious beryl thrones,坐在貴重的琉璃座上,
Looking straight ahead in the middle直視前方的中央
Of many hundreds of thousands of followers.具有許多數百萬的追隨者。
“I saw someone resembling a brahmin我看到有人像一位婆羅門
Who beat that big drum.誰在敲擊那面大鼓。
As he was beating it, [F.172.a]他正在敲打時,
There came these verses:於是出現了這些偈頌:
“ ‘Through the sound of the great drum of sublime golden light,「以尊勝金光明的大鼓之聲,
May all the suffering of the lower existences,願一切下趣的苦
The suffering in Yama’s realm, and the suffering of poverty閻魔界的苦難,以及貧窮的苦難
Cease in the three realms within this trichiliocosm.在這三千大千世界的三界中停止。
“ ‘Through the sound and words of the great drum,「透過大鼓的聲音和言辭,
May all the ignorance in the world cease;願世間的無明都得以消除;
Just as the lord of sages is without fear and his fear has ceased,正如聖主無有恐懼,其恐懼已經止息,
So may all beings be without fear and have their fears cease.願一切眾生都無有恐懼,其恐懼皆得消除。
“ ‘Just like the omniscient lord of sages in saṃsāra「猶如輪迴中無所不知的聖主
Possesses all the qualities of the āryas,具備聖者眾的一切功德,
In that way may beings be oceans of qualities,願眾生具備功德大洋,
Possessing the qualities of the branches of enlightenment.具足菩提分法的功德。
“ ‘Through the sound and words of the great drum,「透過大鼓的聲音和言語,
May all beings possess the voice of Brahmā願一切眾生擁有梵天之音
And reach the supreme enlightenment of而證得最上覺
Sublime buddhahood and turn the good Dharma wheel.尊勝佛果,並轉妙法輪。
“ ‘May they remain for countless eons.願他們住世無數劫。
May they teach the Dharma to benefit beings.願他們宣說法教來利益眾生。
May they defeat the kleśas and dispel suffering.願他們降伏煩惱,消除苦難。
May desire, anger, and ignorance cease.願貪、瞋、無明息滅。
“ ‘Those beings who are in the lower realms,那些墮入下三道的眾生,
Whose skeleton bodies are burning in fire,其骨骼身體在火中燃燒的眾生,
May they hear the sound of the great drum.願他們聽聞大鼓的聲音。
May all their suffering cease completely願他們所有的苦完全消除。
And may they hear the words, “Homage to the buddhas!”願他們聽聞「禮敬諸佛!」的言語。
“ ‘May all beings remember hundreds of lifetimes—「願所有眾生憶念百世——
Thousands of millions of lifetimes.數千萬世。
May they always remember the Munīndra,願他們永遠銘記牟尼勝人,
And may they hear his vast teaching.並願他們聽聞他廣大的教法。
“ ‘Through the sound and words of the great drum,「通過大鼓的聲音和言語,
May they always be together with buddhas願他們始終與諸佛在一起
And completely forsake bad actions.並且徹底放棄惡劣的行為。
May they accomplish good actions.願他們成就善業。
“ ‘May the sound of the great drum「願大鼓之音
Completely bring to fulfillment完全圓滿成就
Whatever wishes and prayers are made所有的願望和願心
By humans, devas, and all beings.由人、諸天以及一切眾生所發願。
“ ‘May the fires be extinguished願火熄滅
For the beings born in the terrible hells,對於那些生在可怕地獄中的眾生,
Where their bodies burn completely in fire, [F.172.b]他們的身體在火中完全焚毀,
And they wander in anguish without a savior.他們在痛苦中流浪,沒有救度者。
“ ‘May the sound of the great drum「願大鼓之聲
Bring an end to the sufferings of those beings終結那些眾生的苦難
Who are experiencing intense, unendurable suffering他們正在經歷著強烈而難以忍受的苦。
In the hells, among the pretas, and in the human world.在地獄、餓鬼和人類世界中。
“ ‘For those who have no support,「對於那些沒有依靠的眾生,
No protection, and no refuge,沒有保護,也沒有依靠,
May there be protection and support,願有保護和支持,
And may there be the supreme refuge.願有至上的歸依。

Who are in the worlds in the ten directions,遍佈於十方世界的,

“ ‘The extremely dreadful bad actions「『極其可怕的惡業
That I have carried out in the past,我過去所造作的極其可怕的惡業,我在十方諸佛菩薩面前,懇請你們轉向看我,我懺悔所有的罪業。
I confess all of them in the presence我在具有十力的諸佛面前懺悔所有這些罪業。
Of those who have the ten strengths.具有十力的那些聖者。
“ ‘Whatever bad actions I have done,「我所做過的一切惡行,
Such as ignoring my mother and father,例如忽視我的母親和父親,
Not acknowledging the buddhas,不承認諸佛,
And not acknowledging good actions;以及不承認善行;
“ ‘Whatever bad actions I have done,"我所做的一切惡業,
Such as being arrogant with pride in my wealth,例如因為財富而驕傲自滿,
Andr arrogant with pride in my family,以及對我的家族感到驕傲而傲慢,
My possessions, or my youth;我的財產,或我的青年;

Because of associating with ignoble beings,因為與卑劣的眾生相親近,
Or caused by my jealousy and miserliness,或者由於我的嫉妒和悭吝而引起的,
Or by my dishonesty and neediness;或者是因為我的不誠實和貪欲;
“ ‘Whatever bad actions I have done'我所做的一切惡行
During the times when I was in misfortune,在我遭遇厄運的時刻,
Or through fears concerning my desires,或者因為對自己貪欲的恐懼,
Or when I was parted from my wealth;或者當我失去財富的時候;
“ ‘Whatever bad actions I have done [F.173.a]「我所造作的一切惡業
Under the power of a deceitful mind,在欺誑意的力量之下,
Under the power of desire and anger,在貪和瞋的驅使下,
Or because of hunger and thirst;或是因為飢餓和口渴;
“ ‘Whatever bad actions I have done「我曾經做過的所有惡行
For the sake of food and drink,為了食物和飲料,

Or from being tormented by various kleśas—或者因為受到各種煩惱的折磨——
“ ‘The bad actions of body, speech, and mind,「身、語、意三種的惡行,
My accumulation of those three kinds of bad conduct,我所積累的那三種不善行,
Whatever I have done of that kind,無論我做過什麼這類的事,
I make a confession of it all.我對此一切都作懺悔。
“ ‘I make a confession of all我向所有人懺悔
Disrespect I have shown我所表現出的不尊重
To the buddhas, the Dharma,對諸佛、法,
And likewise to the śrāvakas.以及同樣對聲聞眾的不恭敬。
“ ‘I make a confession of all「我懺悔一切
Disrespect I have shown我所表現的不敬
And to bodhisattvas.以及對菩薩們的不敬。
“ ‘I make a confession of all我懺悔一切
Disrespect I have shown我所表現出的不敬
To teachers of the Dharma and對法的師傅們
Disrespect I have shown to the Dharma itself.我對法本身所表現出的不恭敬,我都一一懺悔。
“ ‘I make a confession of all「我懺悔一切
My rejection of the Dharma,我對法的拒絕,
And disrespect to my parents,對雙親的不敬。
Through being in constant ignorance.因為長期處於無明之中。
“ ‘I make a confession of all我懺悔一切
Obscuration through stupidity and foolishness;由於愚癡和無知而產生的障礙;
Through desire, anger, and ignorance;透過貪、瞋、無明;
And through pride and arrogance.以及通過驕慢和自大。
“ ‘May I make offerings to those with the ten strengths「願我向具有十力的者供養
In the worlds in the ten directions.在十方世界中。
I will save from all suffering我將拯救眾生免於一切苦難。
Those worlds in the ten directions.十方世界中的眾生。
“ ‘May I bring all the「願我將所有
Countless beings onto the ten bhūmis.無數眾生到達十地。
When they have reached the ten bhūmis當他們證得十地時
May they all become tathāgatas.願他們都成為如來。

From the ocean of suffering,從苦的大洋中,
For millions of eons may I be active願我在千萬個劫中都保持積極精進

“ ‘May I teach those beings「願我為那些眾生演說教法
This profound teaching這個深刻的教法
That is called The Sublime Golden Light這就稱為《金光明尊勝王經》
And purifies one of all karma. [F.173.b]並且能夠淨化一個人的所有業。
“ ‘Those who have committed dreadful evil acts「那些造作了極其可怕的惡行的人們
Throughout a thousand eons在一千劫之中
Will purify themselves of them將透過一次懺悔而得以淨化
Through one single confession.通過一次懺悔。
“ ‘Those who are obscured by bad karma「那些被惡業所遮蔽的人
Will quickly become purified of it會迅速得以淨化
Through confessing with these confessions通過這些懺悔而懺悔
Through the good Sublime Golden Light.通過殊勝的金光明。
“ ‘May I dwell upon the ten bhūmis,「願我住於十地,
The supreme ten that are the source of jewels.至高無上的十地,是珍寶的根源。
May the qualities of a buddha appear願佛的功德顯現
And may I liberate others from the ocean of existence.並願我從存在的大洋中解脫他人。
“ ‘Through the inconceivable qualities of a buddha,「通過佛不可思議的功德,
The flow of the ocean of buddhahood,佛果的大洋之流,
And the deep ocean of buddha qualities,以及佛功德的深大洋。
May I have the perfection of omniscience.願我得到一切智的圓滿。
“ ‘Through a hundred thousand samādhis,「經過十萬個三昧,
Through countless powers of mental retention,通過無數陀羅尼的力,
And through the strengths, powers, and branches of enlightenment,並且透過諸力、神通和菩提分法,

Concerning the bad actions I have done關於我所做的惡業

My mind is always low.我的意總是低沉的。
Wherever it is that I go,無論我到何處去,
I find no happiness.我找不到快樂。

Dispel the fear of all beings.消除所有眾生的恐懼。
I pray that you apprehend my faults我祈願您體察我的過失
And free me from fear.並解救我免於恐懼。
“ ‘May the tathāgatas remove「願如來消除
The stain of my kleśas and karma.我的煩惱和業的污垢。
I pray that the buddhas wash me我祈禱諸佛用他們的大悲之水洗淨我
With the water of their compassion.用他們大悲的水來洗淨我。
“ ‘I confess all my bad actions;「我懺悔我所有的惡業;
Those that I have done in the past我過去所做的那些惡業

The ten kinds of karma I have created—我所造作的十業——

I will practice the ten that are good.我將修習十種善業。
I will dwell upon the ten bhūmis我將安住於十地
And be endowed with the ten supreme strengths.並具足十力。

I make a confession of all of it我在諸佛面前懺悔一切。
In the presence of the buddhas.在諸佛的面前。
“ ‘Whatever good actions have been done,「『無論做過什麼善業,
Whether in this Jambudvīpa無論是在這贍部洲
Or in other world realms,或在其他世界中,
I rejoice in them all.我對這一切都歡喜讚歎。
“ ‘Whatever merit I have created「我所創造的一切福德
Through my body, speech, and mind,通過我的身體、言語和意,
Through those meritorious roots透過那些福德根源
May I reach the highest enlightenment.願我證得至高的菩提。
“ ‘Whatever dreadful bad actions have been made「『無論曾經造作了什麼可怕的惡業
By a foolish mind distressed within existences,被愚癡的意所困擾,在輪迴中受苦,
I confess each one of those bad actions我對那些惡業逐一懺悔
Before the unequaled one with the ten strengths.在十力無匹的聖者前。
“ ‘I confess whatever bad karma I have accumulated「我懺悔所有我所累積的惡業
In dangerous lives, in dangerous existences,在危险的生命中,在危险的存在中,
In dangerous worlds with a dangerous and unstable mind,在危險的世界裡,心意危險且不穩定時,
Through various kinds of dangerous physical behavior.通過各種危險的身體行為。
“ ‘In the presence of the unequaled jinas,在無與倫比的勝者面前,
I confess every single bad action I have done我懺悔我所做的每一個不善的行為。
Because of perilous, foolish stupidity and kleśas,因為危險的、愚癡的愚昧和煩惱,

With the feature of eyes of pure, stainless beryl—具有清淨、離垢綠寶石眼睛的特徵—
A buddha sun, the source of glorious brilliance and blazing fame佛陽,光榮光采和焰慧名譽的源頭
Dispels deep darkness with the light rays of compassion.以大悲的光芒驅散深沉的黑暗。
“ ‘With perfectly stainless, very beautiful, excellent limbs,「具足清淨、離垢地、極為莊嚴、殊妙的身體,
The buddha sun’s limbs are as if covered with stainless gold.佛陽的肢體如同被離垢金所覆蓋。
The light rays of the muni moon bring pleasure牟尼月的光芒帶來歡樂
To minds pained by the fires of the kleśas, which are like blazing fires.對於被煩惱的火焰所灼燒的意識。
“ ‘With faculties and limbs beautified by the thirty-two supreme signs,「具足三十二種殊勝相好莊嚴諸根與四肢,
Limbs beautified by the excellent features,四肢莊嚴具足妙好的特徵,
And with a net of light rays producing blazing, glorious, brilliant merit,用光線的網絡產生焰慧地、光耀、燦爛的福德,
You are present like the sun in the darkness of the three worlds.你如同太陽一般,現身於三界的黑暗中。
“ ‘Body aspects the color of vast, beautiful, stainless beryl;「身相廣大莊嚴,色如清淨離垢地琉璃;
The red of dawn, silver, crystal, and copper-red;曙光的紅色、白銀、水晶和銅紅;
Adorned by a net of light rays of various colors,被各種顏色的光線網所莊嚴。
You, great Muni, are beautiful like the sun.您,偉大的牟尼,美麗如同太陽。
“ ‘The multitude of light rays from the sun of the sugatas dry up「善逝們的太陽光芒乾涸了眾多的苦難大洋
The intensely fierce and violent ocean of suffering.熾烈兇猛的苦難大洋。
Falling into the river of distress, the great river of saṃsāra,墮入苦難之河,輪迴的大河中,
Waters of death and waves of aging churn with misery.死亡之水與衰老之波翻騰著痛苦。
“ ‘I praise the buddhas, who have golden bodies,「我禮讚諸佛,他們擁有金色的身體,
The source of wisdom, supreme within the three worlds.智慧的源頭,三界中最至上的。
Their limbs shine with the color of gold;他們的四肢閃耀著黃金的光彩;
Their limbs are adorned by beautiful signs.他們的肢體被莊嚴的相好所裝飾。
“ ‘Just as the water of the ocean is immeasurable,「如大洋之水不可量,

And just as there is an endless extent to space,就像虛空沒有邊際一樣,
“ ‘The qualities of a buddha are similarly infinite.「佛的功德同樣是無盡的。
There is no one among all beings who can know them.沒有任何眾生能夠認識它們。
Even if they examined and contemplated for many eons,即使他們經過許多劫的觀察和思惟,
They still would not know the end of those qualities.他們仍然無法知道那些功德的盡頭。
“ ‘By counting for eons one may know how many measures,「以劫數計算可以知道有多少度量,

“ ‘May I, through this good karma,「願我透過此善業,
Become before long a buddha in the world.不久便成為世間的佛。
May I teach the Dharma for the benefit of beings,願我宣說法,利益眾生。
And may I free beings afflicted by many sufferings.願我解脫眾生所遭受的眾多苦難。
“ ‘May I be victorious over powerful Māra and his army.「願我戰勝強大的魔及其眷屬。
May I turn the good wheel of the Dharma.願我轉動良善的法輪。
May I remain for countless eons,願我住世無數劫,
And may I satisfy beings with the water of amṛta.願我以甘露之水滿足眾生。
“ ‘May I bring to completion the supreme six perfections,「願我圓滿成就無上的六度,
Just as the jinas of the past have completed them.正如過去的勝者已經圓滿成就它們一樣。
May I destroy the kleśas, clear away suffering,願我摧滅煩惱,清除苦難,
And bring desire, anger, and ignorance to an end.並終止貪、瞋、無明。
“ ‘May I always remember lifetimes—「願我常憶念過去的生世——
A hundred lifetimes, ten billion lifetimes.百世壽命、百億世壽命。
May I constantly recollect the lords of munis,願我常憶念眾牟尼之主,
And may I listen to their vast speech.願我能聽聞他們廣大的教法。
“ ‘May I through these good actions「願我以這些善行
Always succeed in meeting with buddhas.恆常成功地遇見諸佛。
May I completely forsake bad actions願我徹底遠離惡行
And may I practice good actions, the source of merit.願我修習善行,福德的根源。
“ ‘May all the bad karma of all beings願所有眾生的一切惡業
In every realm come to an end in their worlds.在每一個境界中於他們的世界裡都得以終結。
May those beings with impaired faculties and defective limbs願那些根器不全、肢體殘缺的眾生
All possess complete faculties on this day.一切眾生今日都具足圓滿的根器。
“ ‘May those in the ten directions who have no protector,「願十方沒有保護者的眾生,
And are sick, weak, and feeble in body,而且身體患病、虛弱、衰弱的眾生,
All be quickly freed from illness都能迅速遠離病苦
And gain health, strength, and their faculties.並獲得健康、力量和完整的感官能力。
“ ‘May those whose lives are endangered by attacks from kings and robbers,願那些生命遭受君主和盜匪攻擊而危在旦夕的眾生,
And are in distress from hundreds of various kinds of suffering—並且在百般各種苦難中感到痛苦的——
All those beings in misfortune and who are suffering—所有那些身處不幸和痛苦中的眾生——
Become freed from hundreds of the greatest, most dreadful terrors.從百般最大、最可怕的恐懼中解脫。
“ ‘Those who are beaten, who are in painful bondage,'那些遭受毆打、身陷苦難束縛的眾生,
Who remain in various kinds of distress,那些留在各種苦難中的眾生,
Who are disturbed by thousands of tribulations [F.175.b]被千般磨難所困擾的人
And meet various kinds of dreadful terrors and miseries,遭遇各種可怕的恐懼與痛苦,
“ ‘May they all become free from their bonds.願他們全都能夠得到解脫。
May those who are beaten be freed from beatings.願那些被毆打的人得到解脫,擺脫毆打。
May those who are to be killed gain their lives,願那些將要被殺害的人得以保全生命,
And may they be free from all distress and fear.願他們遠離一切痛苦和恐懼。
“ ‘May the beings who are pained by hunger and thirst願饑渴所苦的眾生
Obtain various kinds of food and drink.獲得各種食物和飲料。
May the blind see the variety of forms.願盲人能夠看到各種形色。
May the deaf hear pleasant sounds.願聾者聽聞美妙的聲音。
“ ‘May the naked find a variety of clothes.「願赤身露體的眾生獲得各種衣服。
May poor beings discover treasures.願貧困的眾生發現寶藏。
May all beings become happily possessed願一切眾生都充滿喜樂地擁有
Of many kinds of wealth, grain, and jewels.各種各樣的財富、穀物和寶石。
“ ‘May no one be afflicted with the experience of suffering.願沒有任何人遭受苦的折磨。
May all beings become beautiful,願一切眾生都變得美好,
With excellent, attractive, pleasant bodies,具有殊勝、吸引人、令人愉悅的身體,
And always fully possess many kinds of happiness.並且常常圓滿擁有各種快樂。
“ ‘May beings, completely endowed with merit, have food and drink「願眾生具足福德,擁有飲食
As soon as they think of them.一想到他們就立刻獲得。
May they have melodious vīnas, mṛdaṅga drums, and paṭaha drums;願他們擁有悅耳的琵琶、鼓和鼓;
Springs, lakes, ponds, and reservoirs,泉水、湖泊、池塘和水庫,

Who are heroic, courageous, and wise.具有英勇、勇敢和智慧的人。
May they all practice for the sake of enlightenment願他們都為了菩提而修習。
And may they practice the six perfections.願他們修行六度。
“ ‘May they see the buddhas in the ten directions願他們看見十方的諸佛
Seated blissfully on thrones of beryl jewels安樂地坐在綠寶石寶座上
Beneath supreme, precious trees,在至高無上的寶樹之下,
And may they hear their teaching of the Dharma.並願他們聽聞諸佛所說的法。
“ ‘The bad karma that I have created「我所造作的惡業
In perilous lifetimes I previously obtained,在我過去危險的生世中所獲得的
And the undesirable results accrued by bad karma,以及由惡業所累積的不善果,
May all of that vanish without any remainder.願那一切都完全消滅,無有剩餘。
“ ‘All those beings who are in the bondage of existence,「那些被困在輪迴枷鎖中的眾生,

By my rejoicing in body, speech, and mind,我以身、語、意隨喜,

With a mind that is always clear, pure, and unstained,以清淨、純潔、無染的意,

But rather have accomplished goodness in the presence of a thousand buddhas.’ ”而是在千尊佛的面前修集了善根。」
4.106At that time, the Bhagavat, having listened to those verses, said to the bodhisattva Ruciraketu, “Well done! Well done! Noble one, know that all those who hear these praises of the true qualities of the tathāgatas, and the confession of bad actions that came from a golden drum in your dream, possess a vast aggregation of merit. They will benefit many beings, will bring them the satisfaction of happiness, and will be purified of all obscurations. All of these who possess this kind of special conduct have heard those verses because they have previously, in past times, praised the tathāgatas, made vast prayers, and received the blessing of the tathāgatas.”

4.107The entire gathered assembly then praised the words of the Bhagavat.
