Prologue
p.1The following stanza is in the anuṣṭubh meter, which has eight syllables per verse quarter, and it is bound by a prastāra known as pathyā , a particular viṣamavṛtta .

jātāj jāteṣu satkāryaṃ ratnā rajāḥ sucāyanāt |從誕生時起,人們就從眾生中尊重有德行的人,就像國王從寶石中精心挑選珍貴的寶藏一樣。
śubhradharmasamākhātam abhūn narendramerutā ||美好的法被稱為吉祥,通過積聚豐富而產生了君王的須彌山。
Through accumulating an abundance透過累積豐富的功德
Of the jewel dust of great deeds across lifetimes,跨越多生累劫的偉大功德之如意寶塵,
The mighty mountain, the Lord of Men, has appeared,具有大力量的高山,人中之主已經出現,
Like a wellspring of pure Dharma. [F.99.a]像一股純淨法的源泉。
Most rulers of men resemble drunken elephants大多數人間的統治者都好似醉象一般
Intoxicated by the liquor of desires;被欲望的烈酒所迷醉;
They needlessly destroy the very reeds他們無謂地摧毀了蘆葦
That they themselves eat.他們自己所食用的蘆葦。
I have witnessed how merit, accumulated across eons,我見證了跨越無數時代所累積的功德,
Leads one to have concern for others,引導人們對他人產生關懷。
And, through that, the causes for one’s own happiness透過這些,自己幸福的因緣
Fully manifest without any effort at all.完全顯現,毫不費力。
The happiness of beings arises from wholesome deeds,眾生的快樂源於善行。
And those, in turn, arise from the words of the Supreme Sage;而那些,反過來說,又產生於至高聖者的言教;
Since those, in turn, depend upon the written word,由於那些教法反過來又依賴於文字記載,
The Ruler of Men, in his wisdom, has followed suit.統治者因其智慧而效仿。
With a courageous spirit as brilliant以勇敢的心靈,光芒璀璨
As the stainless autumn moon,猶如秋月光潔無垢,
And diligent effort surging like the ocean,與那勤奮的努力如海浪般奔湧而來,
The wish-fulfilling tree has been born anew.如願樹已經重新誕生。
p.8This account, which describes how all those source texts still extant today of all the genuine scriptures of our teacher—the peerless, perfect, and complete Buddha, the Lord of the Śākyas—that have appeared in this Cool Land since the first introduction of the holy Dharma until the present were put into print through the sponsorship of the Lord of Men, Tenpa Tsering, and family, is divided into two sections: an account of the history of the main initiator, and an account of the virtuous activities undertaken.
