三摩地

4.1Then the youth Candraprabha [F.12.b] rose from his seat, removed his robe from one shoulder, and, kneeling on his right knee with palms placed together, he bowed toward the Bhagavān and made this request: “If the Bhagavān will give me an opportunity to seek answers to them, I have a few questions for the Bhagavān, the tathāgata, the arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha.”

4.1那時,青年月光從座位上站起來,脫下一隻肩膀上的衣服,右膝著地,雙手合十,向薄伽梵禮拜,並提出了這個請求:「如果薄伽梵給我尋求答案的機會,我有幾個問題想請問薄伽梵、如來、阿羅漢、圓滿證悟的佛陀。」

4.2The Bhagavān addressed the youth Candraprabha, saying, “Young man, the Tathāgata will always give you that opportunity. Ask whatever question you wish of the Tathāgata, the arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha.”

4.2薄伽梵對青年月光說道:"少年人,如來將永遠給予你這樣的機會。你可以向如來、阿羅漢、圓滿正等正覺的佛陀提出任何你想問的問題。"

4.3As the Bhagavān had given him the opportunity, the young man Candraprabha asked the Bhagavān, “The Bhagavān says, ‘samādhi, samādhi.’ What kind of Dharma does this word designate?”

4.3年輕人月光得到薄伽梵的許可後,向薄伽梵提問:「薄伽梵您說『三摩地,三摩地』,這個詞語所指代的是什麼樣的法呢?」

The Bhagavān replied to Candraprabha, “Young man, when I say ‘samādhi, samādhi,’ it means the profound realization of the mind.

薄伽梵回答月光說:"年輕人,當我說'三摩地、三摩地'時,它指的是對心的深刻現證。

4.4“[1] It is the absence of arising. [2] It is the absence of continuation. [3] It is the knowledge of continuation. [4] It is putting down the burden. [5] It is the wisdom of the tathāgatas. [6] It is having the preeminence of a buddha. [7] It is the healing of desire, the pacifying of anger, and the elimination of ignorance.

4.4「[1] 無所生起。[2] 無所相續。[3] 知相續之智。[4] 放下負擔。[5] 如來之慧。[6] 具備佛陀之殊勝。[7] 欲之療癒、瞋恨之平息,以及無明之消除。」

“[8] It is engaging in what should be engaged in. [9] It is rejecting that which should not be engaged in. [10] It is the aspiration to good qualities. [11] It is the wish to be free from saṃsāra.

「[8] 它是從事應該從事的事物。[9] 它是拒絕不應該從事的事物。[10] 它是對善法的願心。[11] 它是渴望從輪迴中解脫的心願。

4.5“[12] It is practicing with a higher motivation. [13] It is remaining awake. [14] It is not abandoning renunciation. [15] It is maintaining good qualities.

4.5「[12]是以更高的動機來修習。[13]是保持覺醒。[14]是不放棄棄捨。[15]是保持善法。」

“[16] It is not relying on rebirth. [17] It is not accumulating karma. [18] It is not paying attention to the internal āyatanas. [19] It is not engaging with the external āyatanas.

"[16] 它不依賴於再生。[17] 它不積累業。[18] 它不關注內部的處。[19] 它不與外部的處接觸。"

4.6“[20] It is not praising oneself. [21] It is not criticizing others. [22] It is having no attachment to family. [23] It is not placing one’s trust in ordinary people.

4.6「[20]不讚美自己。[21]不貶低他人。[22]對家族無執著。[23]不依靠普通人。」

“[24] It is the natural result of correct conduct. [F.13.a] [25] It is that which is difficult to approach. [26] It is great majesty. [27] It is self-knowledge.

「[24]它是正行的自然結果。[F.13.a] [25]它是難以接近的。[26]它是偉大的威勢。[27]它是自知。」

4.7“[28] It is the absence of inconstancy. [29] It is maintaining perfect behavior. [30] It is the absence of malice. [31] It is the absence of aggression. [32] It is not harming others. [33] It is taking care of companions. [34] It is guarding secret mantras.

4.7"[28] 它是沒有變易。[29] 它是保持完美的行為。[30] 它是沒有瞋。[31] 它是沒有侵害。[32] 它是不傷害他人。[33] 它是照顧同伴。[34] 它是守護秘密的咒。

“[35] It is being nonviolent. [36] It is not being harmful to those with correct conduct. [37] It is speaking gently.

「[35]不傷害生命。[36]不傷害正行者。[37]溫言相語。」

4.8“[38] It is not remaining anywhere in the three realms. [39] It is the patience that accords with the emptiness of all phenomena. [40] It is the aspiration to omniscient wisdom.

4.8"[38] 不在三界中停留。[39] 符合一切法空的忍。[40] 對一切種智的願心。"

“That, young man, is what is meant by ‘samādhi.’ Young man, practicing those qualities and not practicing their opposite is what is meant by ‘samādhi.’ ”

「年輕人啊,這就是『三摩地』的意義。年輕人啊,修習這些品質而不修習它們的相反面,這就是『三摩地』的意義。」

4.9Then the Bhagavān taught the samādhi, the revealed equality of the nature of all phenomena, and at that time gave a detailed teaching by chanting the following extensive verses to the youth Candraprabha.

4.9隨後,薄伽梵傳授了三摩地,揭示了一切法性質的平等性,並在那時通過為月光青年詳細吟誦以下廣泛的偈頌而進行了深入教導。

“I have opened the door to the elixir.

I have explained what the nature of phenomena is.

“Always avoid sinful companions,

And always meditate with a loving mind. {2}

“Always protect pure conduct,
常常守護清淨戒,
Gain the prosperity of renunciation,
獲得棄捨的福樂,
Be familiar with generosity and wisdom,
要熟悉佈施和慧,
And this samādhi will not be difficult to attain. {3}
而且這個三摩地將不難獲得。{3}
“This is not the level of the numerous śrāvakas.
「這不是眾多聲聞的境界。
When you have attained this level of peace,
當你證得這個寂靜的境界時,
You will have the direct perception of the Sugata’s Dharma
你將直接證悟善逝的法。
And you will attain the inconceivable buddha qualities. {4}
你將獲得不可思議的佛陀境界。
“When you see wise people who are worthy vessels,
「當你看到值得尊敬的智者時,
Bring them to the aspiration for enlightenment,
將他們引向菩提心,
Establish them in the highest knowledge,
將他們安立在最高的智慧中,
And then this king of samādhis will not be difficult to attain. {5}
那麼這個三摩地王就不難獲得了。{5}
“This samādhi is not difficult to attain
「這個三摩地不難獲得
For those who understand the natural results
對於領悟自然果報的人來說
That come to those who become envious of wealth
那些對財富產生嫉妒的人所遭受的後果
And to those who seek and enjoy it. {6} [F.13.b]
以及那些尋求並享受它的人。{6} [F.13.b]
“The meditation of this king of samādhis, emptiness,
「這個三摩地王的禪修,空性,
Is at the summit of pure conduct.
在清淨戒的最高峰。
The continuous meditation on the nature of phenomena
對法性的持續禪修
Is unknown to the foolish who practice incorrectly. {7}
那些不正確修行的愚癡者無法了知。{7}
“Those who long for this samādhi of peace
「那些渴望這種寧靜三摩地的人
Will never have fear arise in their mind.
永遠不會在他們的心中升起恐懼。
Those who are on this level of peace
處於這個和平境界的人們
Will always see the supreme men. {8}
將會常見至高的聖者。{8}
“Whoever brings to mind the image of the Tathāgata’s body,
「誰若心裡憶持如來的身相,
Their senses will be at peace and their mind at peace.
他們的感官將處於安寧之中,他們的心也將處於安寧之中。
Their minds, free of error, will always be at rest.
他們的心,遠離誤,將永遠安寧。
What they have heard and what they know will be like an ocean. {9}

“Remaining in this samādhi,
「安住在這三摩地中,
Wherever the bodhisattvas tread
菩薩所踏之處
They will see ten thousand million buddhas
他們將看見一千萬尊佛陀
And even more, as numerous as the Ganges sands. {10}
更有無數如恆河沙那般之多的佛陀。
“Anyone aiming to take the measure
"任何人試圖衡量
Of the Buddha’s Dharma will go insane.
想要衡量佛陀的法的人會陷入瘋狂。
One cannot measure that which is immeasurable;
不可能測量那無量的事物;
The qualities of the guides in their entirety are inconceivable. {11}
導師們的一切品質都是不可思議的。{11}
“There is no being in the ten directions
「在十方中沒有任何生命
Who can equal the Lord of the World, let alone be greater.
誰能等同於世界之主,更何況超越他。
You should long for and attain the wisdom of the buddhas,
你應當渴望並證得諸佛陀的慧。
Who possess all the qualities of omniscience. {12}
具備遍知的所有品質。{12}
“The Lord of the World is completely beautiful,
「世界之主完全莊嚴美好,
With a body that is the color of gold.
具有金色的身體。
Bodhisattvas will rest in meditation
菩薩將安住於禪修中
When their mind is focused upon that image. {13}

“The wise who understand the composite and noncomposite

Have ceased conceptualizing attributes.

They remain in that meditation of the absence of attributes

“Those who remain in the dharmakāya

Know that all things are nothing.

Those who have ceased conceptualizing things

Do not see the Lord of Jinas as a rūpakāya. {15}

“I proclaim to you and make it known to you

That to the extent that a person contemplates this,

To that extent their mind will be fixed upon it,

Through that contemplation that dwells upon it. {16}

“Those who remember in that way the appearance

And immeasurable wisdom of the Lord of Sages, [F.14.a]

They will have their mind completely focused upon him

Through constant meditation on that recollection. {17}

“When walking, sitting, or standing,

“They will know the buddhas and see the buddhas;

They will realize the nature of the buddhas.

Remaining in this samādhi,

They will pay homage to the buddhas who have great might. {19}

“With serene body, speech, and mind,

They constantly recite praises to the buddhas.

In that way, through the mind’s continuum of meditation,

Day and night they see the Lord of the World. {20}

“When the time comes that they are sick and unwell

And experience the suffering of dying,
並經歷死亡的苦受,
They will not lose their recollection of the Buddha,
他們不會失去對佛陀的憶念。
And it will not be stolen away by the experience of suffering. {21}
而且痛苦的經歷也不會將它奪走。{21}
“Having analyzed with wisdom in that way,
「以那樣的方式用慧來分析,
They know all present, past, and future phenomena to be empty.
他們知道一切現在、過去和未來的現象都是空性的。
They remain in that nature of phenomena
他們安住於現象的那種本質中
And perform bodhisattva conduct without being disheartened. {22}
並且在不氣餒的情況下,踐行菩薩行。{22}
“Therefore, having heard these benefits,
「所以,聽聞了這些利益之後,
You should long for unequaled enlightenment.
你應該渴望無等的菩提。
It is difficult to see the sublime Sugata,
親見至尊善逝極為難得。
So do not have cause for regret in the future. {23}
所以不要在將來有後悔的原因。{23}
“I have taught this excellent Dharma
「我已傳授了這殊勝的法
But if you do not practice it well
但如果你不能很好地修習它
You will be like a sick man holding a bag of medicine‍—
你就像一個患病的人,拿著一袋藥物——
That alone will not cure his illness. {24}
那單單如此是不會治癒他的病的。
“Therefore, the wise and the realized
「因此,智慧者和已證悟者
Are always aspiring to this samādhi.
總是渴望這個三摩地。
And if they practice correct conduct, learning, and generosity
如果他們修習正行、慧學和佈施
It will not be difficult for them to attain this samādhi.” {25}
他們將不難證得這個三摩地。
