30.1Then the Bhagavān said to the youth Candraprabha, “Therefore, young man, you should train in this way, thinking, ‘I will abandon even the pleasures of the kingship of a divine cakravartin and enter homelessness.’

30.2“Young man, having entered homelessness you should maintain the disciplines of mendicancy, live in solitude, and develop perfect mildness and patience.

30.3“Young man, you should apply yourself diligently, as if your hair and clothes were on fire, and listen to the samādhi, the revealed equality of the nature of all phenomena, learn it, understand it, keep it, recite it to others, promote it, proclaim it, chant it, meditate on it with unadulterated meditation, promulgate it, and make it widely known to others.
30.3「少年,你應當勤奮精進,如同頭髮和衣服著火一樣急迫,聆聽此三摩地——一切現象本性的顯現平等性,學習它、理解它、受持它、為他人誦說它、推廣它、宣揚它、吟誦它、用純淨的禪修來思惟它、傳播它,並將它廣為人知。」
30.4“Young man, you should always, like a rhinoceros, dwell without a companion in the forest.” [F.95.b]

30.5Thereupon the Bhagavān, in order to explain this topic, gave a detailed teaching on this episode from the past by chanting the following verses to the youth Candraprabha:

“At that time the kingdom was peaceful and happy,「那時這個國家安樂和平,

Jambudvīpa was adorned by many flowers.贍部洲被眾多的花所裝飾。

“At that time there was a jina, one with the ten strengths,「當時有一位勝者,具足十力,」

“ ‘The stainless, pure, ultimate state—「無染的、清淨的、究竟的狀態——
Peace, complete peace, without stain, free of stain—平靜,完全的平靜,無污垢,清淨無垢——
There are no concepts or pride in the state of peace在寧靜的境界中沒有概念和驕慢。

“When King Dṛdhadatta heard堅授國王聽聞時
That the supreme human was teaching this samādhi,至尊人在教授這個三摩地,

“When the king had heard this ultimate truth「當國王聽聞這勝義諦時
He experienced a vast, superior joy.他體驗到廣大殊勝的喜樂。
He gave up all of the four continents.他放棄了四大洲的所有財富。
He abandoned pleasures and left his home. {33}他拋棄了樂受,出家離家。{33}
“When the king gave up the world and entered homelessness當國王捨棄了世界,出家入道
For the sake of enlightenment and to become a jina,為了證得菩提,成為勝者,
All the people in this Jambudvīpa贍部洲的所有人民
Gave up all sensory pleasures and entered homelessness too. {34}放棄一切感官快樂,也隨之出家。
“At that time there was a vast assembly with the ten strengths.「那時有一個廣大的眾會,具備十力。
There were many diligent bhikṣus and bhikṣuṇīs.有許多精進的比丘和比丘尼。
At that time, herbs grew without ploughing,那時候,草木自動生長,無須耕種,

“The three orange Dharma robes manifested,「三件橙色法衣顯現出來,

“See, young man, look how that supreme king「看啊,年輕人,你看那位至高無上的國王
Gave up the entire world and entered homelessness.捨棄了整個世界,進入了出家的生活。
In the age of destruction there will be many beings在末法時代,將會有許多生命
Who will have few possessions but will not leave their homes. {37}他們擁有很少的財產,但不願出家。{37}
“There will be many in chains and suffering punishments,「將會有許多人被束縛著,遭受懲罰和苦難,
Who are abused, threatened, and have unwished-for suffering.遭受辱罵、威脅,以及不願受到的苦。

Yet they will say, ‘I am going to be a buddha.’ {41}然而他們卻會說:『我將要成為佛陀。』
“They will delight in killing, binding, and attacking others;「他們會樂於殺害、束縛和攻擊他人;
They will have bad conduct, and be cruel and aggressive.他們的行將是不良的,會變得殘忍和具有侵略性。

“They will become angry with anyone他們將對任何人感到憤怒

When they hear something that is stupid and mistaken當他們聽到愚蠢且錯誤的言論時

“Young man, having heard these words of mine,「年輕人,聽聞了我這些話語之後,
Do not follow those others.不要跟隨那些人。
If you wish to reach the highest enlightenment如果你想要達到至高的菩提

“One could recount for hundreds of eons the many qualities「人們可以歷數數百劫以上眾多的功德
Ascribed to the austere disciplines of mendicancy,歸依於乞食行的嚴苦戒律,

One will not attain the peace of the highest enlightenment. {45}就無法獲得最高菩提的寂靜。{45}
“Always be good and gentle.「常要善良與溫和。
Always have pure conduct and a serene mind.時時保持清淨戒,心意恆常保持寧靜。
Continually maintain pure conduct,不斷保持清淨戒,
And before long you will attain the supreme samādhi. {46}不久之後,你將證得最高的三摩地。{46}
“Do not be proud and do not be harsh.「不要驕傲,不要粗暴。
Always have a mind that is serene.時刻保持平靜的心。
Eliminate all pride, arrogance, and hiding of your faults,消除一切驕傲、傲慢與隱藏自己的過失,
And attain this supreme samādhi. {47}並證得此究竟三摩地。{47}
“Always remember the Jina’s qualities.「時常憶念勝者的功德。
The color of perfect gold, shining brightly,完美黃金的色澤,閃閃發光,
Like the sky at night filled with stars:如同夜空充滿星星一般:
The Sage’s body is filled with signs. {48}聖者的身體遍佈種種標誌。{48}
“The descendant of Manu who remembers the moon of the Sage摩奴的後代,念著聖者的月輪
While walking, sitting, standing, or lying down行走、坐著、站立或躺下的時候
Will always have the Teacher present before him,將會常有師現身於他的面前,
And he will have vast happiness. {i}他將獲得廣大的幸福。
“Holding many powders and ointments,「持有眾多的粉末和膏油,
And excellent parasols, banners, canopies, and flags,以及優美的傘蓋、幢旗、華蓋和旗。
Always make offerings to the Sugata常要供養善逝
And this supreme samādhi will soon be attained. {49}這樣殊勝的三摩地將很快得以成就。{49}
“Holding many musical instruments持有眾多樂器
And excellent, exquisite incense, garlands, and flowers,以及精妙、優雅的香、花鬘和花,
Make offerings always to the Jina’s stūpas常向勝者的塔供養
And this supreme samādhi will soon be attained. {50}這樣殊勝的三摩地就會很快得到成就。{50}
“With many kinds of excellent songs and dance,「以各種優美的歌曲和舞蹈,

“Create beautiful images of the Buddha,製作莊嚴的佛陀聖像,
Perfectly made of precious materials,用珍貴的材料完美製作而成,
That are attractive and extremely beautiful,那些有吸引力且極其美麗的
And this supreme samādhi will soon be attained. {52}這樣至高的三摩地就將很快被證得。{52}
“Make excellent images that are fashioned製作精美的塑像
From gold or silver, and also sandalwood,用黃金或白銀製作,以及檀香製作,
That are attractive and extremely beautiful,那些外形迷人且極其美麗的。
And this supreme samādhi will soon be attained. {i}這樣至高的三摩地就會很快得到成就。
“Make images that are fashioned of clay,「製作用泥土塑造的佛像,
Or stone, or wood, or painted,或者用石頭、木頭、或繪製的。
That are attractive and extremely beautiful,那些吸引人且極其美麗的

“Always remain in the solitude of forests,「應當經常處於林中的獨處,
Forsaking the joys of villages and towns.捨棄村鎮的快樂。

“I am the Lord of the Dharma; you are my son."我是法的主人;你是我的兒子。
Train in this samādhi practice of mine.修習我這個三摩地的法。
I was at that time Dṛdhadatta, the world-renowned我當時是堅授,世界聞名的
Ruler over the descendants of Manu. {54}摩奴的後代的統治者。{54}
“Seeking this peace, this supreme samādhi,「尋求這份寧靜,這至高的三摩地,
I made offerings to countless buddhas in the past.我在過去向無數位佛陀做過供養。
I always maintained pure conduct我始終保持清淨戒。
And I honored those with the ten strengths. {55}我恭敬供養那些具足十力的聖者。{55}
“Seeking this peace, this supreme samādhi,我尋求這份寂靜,這最高的三摩地,
In the past I gave up my sons and wives.過去我放棄了我的兒子和妻子。
I gave away my supreme, excellent head, legs,我捨棄了我殊勝、優越的頭顱和雙腿,

“In the moment that I have attained「在我證得

Will not be able to have faith將無法生起信心
In the supreme samādhi of emptiness, the ultimate truth. {78}在至高的空三摩地中,勝義諦。{78}
“The people who have faith, are wise, and know the practice,「那些具有信心、聰慧且懂得修行的人,
Are always joyful when they hear聽聞時總是歡喜
The way that is correct and profound,正確而深邃的道路,
And do not become frightened or terrified. {79}並且不要感到害怕或恐懼。

And like the kind Jina who has infinite fame,如同具有無量名聞的善良勝者一樣,

Will have understanding and memory,將具有理解和記憶。
High wisdom, will retain what they have heard,高深的慧,將保留他們所聽聞的。

“They who possess this samādhi「具有這個三摩地的人
Will receive the offerings of devas,將獲得天神的供養,
Will be continually revered by humans,將會被人類不斷地尊敬。
And will be constantly protected by the hosts of spirits. {84}並將得到眾多靈神的持續保護。{84}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具有這至高無上三摩地的人
Do not die in fire or water,不會在火中或水中喪命,
Are not harmed by poison or weapons,不會被毒藥或武器所傷害,
And cannot be reached by enemies. {85}敵人也無法傷害他們。{85}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具足這個至高的三摩地的人
Will always dwell in forest bowers,將常住在林中的亭閣裡,
Where they will be constantly attended by devas,他們將會得到天神的常時侍奉,
And where many yakṣas will be their servants. {86}眾多夜叉將成為他們的僕人。{86}

Will have wisdom that is as vast as the ocean,將擁有如海洋般廣大的慧。
Will describe without impediment the qualities of the Sage,將毫無障礙地描述聖者的功德。
And make known correctly the qualities of the Buddha. {87}並正確地宣說佛陀的功德。{87}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「擁有這至高的三摩地的眾生
Will have endless, boundless learning將擁有無盡無邊的慧學
That is beyond measure, like space,那是無法衡量的,像虛空一樣。
And will hold the torch of wisdom that dispels darkness. {88}並持有驅散黑暗的慧之火炬。{88}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具有這最高三摩地的人們
Will always be gentle, will speak appropriate words,總是溫和謙遜,說出適切的言語,
Will be beloved in the midst of their followers,在他們的追隨者中會受到喜愛。
And their speech will be like the lion’s roar. {89}他們的言語將如獅子的吼聲。
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具備這至高無上的三摩地的人
Will be like healing physicians,將如同療癒的醫者一般,
The support, protector, and refuge of many,眾多人的依靠、保護者和庇護所,
And will bring illumination to the worlds. {90}並將光明帶給諸世界。{90}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi具足此殊勝三摩地的人
Will not take pleasure in sexual intercourse.不會沉溺於性欲的快樂。
They will enjoy śamatha and reach the bliss of dhyāna.他們將享受止的修行,並到達禪定的喜樂。
With a peaceful voice they will speak of peace. {91}他們會用平和的聲音說話和平。{91}

“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具備這種至高三摩地的人們
Will have the sweet and melodious voice of a crane,將具備鶴的甘美悅耳的聲音,
The sound of the avadavat and a drumbeat,鶟鳥的聲音和鼓聲,
And a singing sound and gentle voice. {94}還有歌唱的聲音和溫柔的嗓音。
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具足這個殊勝三摩地的人
Will have a voice that is like resounding thunder.他們的聲音將如同雷聲的轟鳴。

Will not have attachment to food,不會對食物產生執著。
Will not delight in alms bowls or dharma robes,不會對缽盂和法衣感到喜樂,

Do not praise themselves不自讚歎

Always examine themselves,常常審察自己,

“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具足此殊勝三摩地的人
Have pure conduct and untroubled minds,具有清淨戒和不擾亂的心,

Are always gentle, and always delight in liberation. {100}總是溫和,且常常歡喜於解脫。
“They who possess this supreme samādhi他們具備這殊勝的三摩地
Are always motivated to generosity,總是有佈施的動力,
Take no delight in avarice,不以慳貪為喜悅,
And always have correct conduct. {101}並且始終保有正行。{101}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具足此殊勝三摩地的人們
Are handsome, good looking, and attractive.容貌端正,相好莊嚴,令人喜愛。
Their bodies shine like the purest gold他們的身體光彩耀眼,如同最純淨的黃金。
And have the thirty-two primary signs of a great being. {102}並具足三十二大人相。{102}
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具足這個最高三摩地的生命
Always have an attractive appearance,總是擁有令人喜愛的外貌,
Are observed and beloved by many people, [F.100.b]被許多人觀察和喜愛。
And those people never have enough of gazing upon them. {103}那些人永遠看不厭他們。
“They who possess this supreme samādhi「具足這殊勝三摩地的人
Always delight, gladden, and enchant總是令人欣喜、歡樂,並深深吸引他人。
Devas, nāgas, and likewise the yakṣas,天神、龍以及夜叉,

Have before them the compassionate Amitābha在他們面前出現慈悲的阿彌陀
