2.1Then the Bhagavān mindfully and knowingly arose from that samādhi. Having arisen from it, he addressed Brother Śāriputra.

“Śāriputra, the wisdom of the buddhas, which is profound, difficult to see, and difficult to understand, has been realized by the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas. It is difficult for all śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas to know. Why is that? Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas have served many hundred thousand quintillions of buddhas; they have practiced for the highest, complete enlightenment with many hundred thousand quintillions of buddhas; they have followed them for a long time; they have been diligent; [F.13.a] they have obtained marvelous, amazing Dharma; and they know the Dharma that is difficult to know.
「舍利弗,諸佛的智慧深遠,難以看見,難以理解,已經被如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛所實現。對於所有聲聞眾和辟支佛來說,很難知曉。為什麼呢?舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛已經侍奉了無數的佛;他們已經為了無上正等正覺而隨侍無數的佛修行;他們長期追隨;他們精進不懈;他們已經獲得了不可思議、驚人的法;並且他們知曉難以知曉的法。
2.2“Śāriputra, it is difficult to know the true meaning of the teachings given by the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas. Why is that? They teach the Dharma that they have understood themselves though a diversity of skillful methods, visions of wisdom, illustrations of causes and reasons, supports, expressions, and modes of communication. Through these skills in methods, they liberate this and that being, here and there, from attachment. Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas have reached the perfection of great skill in methods and the highest vision of wisdom.
2.2「舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛所宣說的法教義理難以知曉。這是為什麼呢?他們通過種種方便、智慧的洞見、因緣的譬喻、依處、言辭和溝通方式,來傳授他們自己所證悟的法。通過這些方便,他們解脫了這裡和那裡的眾生,使其遠離執著。舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛已經達到了大方便的圓滿和最高的智慧洞見。」
2.3“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas are endowed with the wonderful dharmas of the strength of the unimpeded, unobstructed vision of wisdom, as well as the fearlessnesses, the unique qualities, the powers, the strengths, the aspects of enlightenment, the dhyānas, the liberations, the samādhis, and the samāpattis, and they teach a variety of Dharma teachings.
2.3「舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛具有無礙無阻智慧視見的力量的妙法,以及無畏、獨特的品質、力、強度、菩提的面向、禪定、解脫、三昧和等至,並且他們教導各種法教。」
“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas have obtained that which is a great marvel. Śāriputra, it is enough to say just that. Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas have obtained that which is a supreme marvel.
「舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛已經成就了偉大的奇跡。舍利弗,這樣說就足夠了。舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛已經成就了至高無上的奇跡。」
2.4“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas should teach the dharmas of the tathāgatas themselves, which are the dharmas that tathāgatas know.
2.4「舍利弗,如來應當教導如來自身的法,即如來所知的法。」
“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas teach all dharmas. The tathāgatas know all dharmas.
“They know what those dharmas are, the way they are, their characteristics and their nature just as those dharmas are, the way those dharmas are, the characteristics those dharmas have, and the nature of those dharmas.” [F.13.b]
「他們知道那些法是什麼,它們的樣子,它們的特徵和它們的本性,正如那些法本來的樣子,那些法本來的樣子,那些法所具有的特徵,以及那些法的本性。」
2.5At that time, the Bhagavān then taught that topic in detail by speaking these verses:
“There have been countless great heroes「過去有無數的大英雄
In the world with its maruts and humans,在有風天和人類的世界裡,
But all those beings were unable to know但是所有那些眾生都無法知曉
Those guides in their entirety. {1}那些導師的全部。{1}
“No one is able to know「沒有人能夠知道
The nature of their strengths,他們力的本質,
Liberations, fearlessnesses,解脫、無畏、
Or the nature of the buddhas’ other dharmas. {2}或者諸佛的其他法的性質。
“In the past their practice「過去他們的修行
In the presence of millions of buddhas在百萬諸佛的面前
Was profound and subtle,深妙難知難見。
Difficult to know and difficult to see. {3}難知難見。{3}
“They practiced bodhisattva conduct他們修習菩薩行
For countless millions of eons.經歷了無數百萬劫。
And I have perfectly seen而我已經完全看見
At the Bodhimaṇḍa its result. {4}在菩提座的成果。
“Like the guides in other worlds「就像其他世界的導師一樣
I have the knowledge of it我具備了對它的知識。
In exactly the way that it is完全按照它本來的樣子
And its exact characteristics. {5}及其確切的特性。{5}
“It cannot be taught."不可宣說。
Its description cannot be known,其描述無法被認知,
Except by bodhisattvas唯有菩薩們才能夠
Who maintain aspiration for it; {6}誰能維持對它的發願;{6}
“There are no other beings"沒有其他眾生
Present in the worlds遍在於諸世界
To whom this Dharma is taught對他們教授這個法
And who know this teaching. {7}而且瞭解這個教法的人。{7}
“The wisdom of the jinas is beyond the scope「勝者眾的智慧超越了
Even of the śrāvakas following the knower of the world,即使是追隨世間解的聲聞眾,
Who have served him well and been praised by the Sugata,曾經好好侍奉他,並被善逝所讚歎的,
Whose defilements have ceased and who are in their last bodies. {8}其煩惱已滅盡,處於最後一身的聖者。{8}
“If all of those worlds were filled「如果所有那些世界都充滿
With beings who were the same as Śāriputra與舍利弗相同的眾生
And they all in unison contemplated it他們都一起思考這個問題
They would still not understand the wisdom of the sugatas. {9}他們仍然無法理解善逝眾的智慧。{9}
“Even if those who were as wise as you「即使那些智慧如你一般的人
Were to fill all the ten directions,都能充滿十方,
And if all ten directions were also filled in that same way如果十方也都同樣充滿了
By those who are my other śrāvakas, {10}由我的其他聲聞眾所[成就],{10}
“And if they all today in unison「而且若他們都在今天齊心協力
Were to contemplate the Sugata’s wisdom,若要思惟善逝的智慧,
Even all of them together would still not know即便他們全部聚在一起,仍然無法認識
The extent of my limitless buddha wisdom. {11} [F.14.a]我無限的佛智慧的廣大。{11} [F.14.a]
“If pratyekabuddhas who are without defilements,「若諸辟支佛無漏者,
Have sharp faculties, and are in their last bodies具有銳利的根機,且處於最後身
Were to fill all the ten directions充滿十方
Like reeds or a stand of bamboo, {12}如同蘆葦或竹林一樣,
“And if they were in unison to contemplate「而且如果他們一起思惟
Just a fraction of my superior Dharma我清淨法的一小部分
For endless quintillions of eons,經過無量無數的劫,
They would still not understand its meaning. {13}他們仍然無法理解它的意義。{13}
“If the ten directions were to be filled「如果十方都充滿
By bodhisattvas who have newly entered the yāna,由剛剛進入菩提乘的菩薩們所成就的。
Those who have served many millions of buddhas那些曾經侍奉過無數諸佛的人們
And many dharmabhāṇakas of the definitive meaning, {14}以及眾多宣說究竟義理的法師,
“If they filled all worlds like stands of bamboo「如果他們充滿了所有世界如同竹林一樣
Uninterruptedly at all times,於一切時,無有間斷,
And if for countless millions of eons如果經歷無數百萬個劫
That are as innumerable as the Ganges sands {15}像恆河沙粒一樣無數的世界 {15}
“They were in unison to contemplate,他們一致地觀想,
With subtle wisdom thinking of nothing else,用細微的智慧思惟著別無他物,
The Dharma that the Sugata has directly perceived,善逝直接證悟的法,
It would still be beyond the scope of their understanding. {16}這仍然超越了他們的理解範圍。
“If bodhisattvas who are irreversible—「如果菩薩們已經不可逆轉——
Not a few, but as numerous as the Ganges sands—不是少數,而是如同恆河沙粒那樣無數眾多——
Were to contemplate this without a thought of anything else,如果菩薩們一心一意地思考這個問題,
Even for them this would be beyond the scope of their knowledge. {17}即使是他們,這也超出了他們的知識範圍。
“The jinas in the worlds in the ten directions「十方世界中的勝者們
Who understand the profound and very subtle Dharma,能夠理解深奧微妙的法。
Who are free of thinking and whose defilements have ceased,遠離思慮、煩惱已盡的勝者眾,
Have for a long time been teaching this highest meaning. {18}長期以來一直在教導這最高的義理。{18}
“Those jinas, those great sages teach nothing else「那些勝者,那些大聖者不教其他的事物
Than exactly this kind of knowledge that I have.除了我所具有的這種知識外,沒有其他的。
Śāriputra, you should have complete aspiration舍利弗,你應當具足發願
For that which the tathāgatas are teaching. {19}為了如來眾所宣說的教法。{19}
“I instruct all of these śrāvakas,「我教導所有這些聲聞眾,
Those who are pratyekabuddhas,那些辟支佛,
And those I have brought to nirvāṇa,以及我已經引導他們進入涅槃的那些人,
To liberate them from the continuity of suffering. {20}為了把他們從苦的相續中解救出來。
“I teach many dharmas in the world「我在世界中教導許多法
So that here and there I bring liberation from attachment.使得我在各地都能帶來解脫於執著。
I give the teaching of the three yānas,我施設三乘的教法,
Which is my supreme skill in methods.” {21}這是我最高的方便。」
2.26In that assembly two hundred thousand great śrāvakas such as Ājñātakauṇḍinya, who were arhats, whose defilements had ceased [F.14.b] and who had attained power, and also bhikṣus, bhikṣuṇīs, upāsakas, and upāsikās who followed the Śrāvakayāna, and also those who followed the Pratyekabuddhayāna, all thought, “What is the cause and what is the reason why the Bhagavān has praised the skill in methods of the tathāgatas, and said, ‘This profound Dharma is the attainment of buddhahood’ and ‘It is difficult for all śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas to understand it’? The Bhagavān has said there is but one liberation, and we have obtained the Buddha’s Dharma and we have attained nirvāṇa, and yet we do not know the meaning of what the Bhagavān has said.”
2.26在那次集會中,有二十萬位大聲聞眾,如憍陳如等,他們都是阿羅漢,煩惱已經除盡,已經獲得力量。還有比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞和優婆夷,他們跟隨聲聞乘,以及那些跟隨辟支佛乘的人,都想著:「薄伽梵讚歎如來的方便智慧,並說『這個深妙的法是成就佛道』以及『所有聲聞和辟支佛都很難理解它』,這是什麼原因呢?薄伽梵說只有一種解脫,我們已經得到了佛的法教,已經證得了涅槃,可是我們卻不明白薄伽梵所說的意思。」
2.27Brother Śāriputra, knowing that the fourfold retinue was uncertain and in doubt, at that time said these words to the Bhagavān: “Bhagavān, what is the cause and what is the reason why the Bhagavān has in this way repeatedly praised the teaching of the Dharma of being wise in skill in methods, and repeatedly said, ‘I have realized this profound Dharma’ and ‘It is difficult to know the intended meaning of the teaching’? I have never before heard this Dharma teaching from the Bhagavān. Also the fourfold retinue is uncertain and in doubt. What is the Tathāgata’s intended meaning? I request that the Bhagavān explain perfectly the profound Dharma of the tathāgatas, of which you have repeatedly spoken.”
2.27舍利弗知道四眾弟子心生疑惑不安,於那時對薄伽梵說出這樣的話:「薄伽梵,是什麼因緣,薄伽梵這樣一再稱讚善於運用方便的法教,一再說『我已經領悟了這深奧的法』和『這教法的深意難以理解』呢?我從前從未從薄伽梵聽聞過這樣的法教。四眾弟子也都心生疑惑不安。如來的深意是什麼呢?我懇請薄伽梵圓滿地開示諸如來一再提及的這深奧的法。」
2.28Then at that time Brother Śāriputra recited these verses: [F.15.a]
“ ‘I have obtained countless strengths,「我已獲得無數的力,
Liberations, and dhyānas’—解脫和禪定」—
Sun of humans, for a long time today人中之日,久已今日
You have spoken words of this kind. {22}你說過這樣的話。{22}
“You are speaking about the Bodhimaṇḍa「你在講述菩提座
Without anyone asking you to.沒有人要求你這樣做。
You are speaking about intended meaning你在談論意圖的含義
Without anyone asking you about it. {23}沒有任何人問你關於它的事。{23}
“Without anyone asking you to speak of it沒有人要求你說起它
You are praising your own conduct.你是在讚揚自己的行。
You speak of your attainment of wisdom你說自己證得了智慧
And you declare it to be profound. {24}並且你宣稱它是深妙的。
“Those with power, whose defilements have ceased,那些具有力量、煩惱已經消除的人,
And those established in nirvāṇa而那些安住於涅槃的人
Are today in uncertainty,今日處於困惑之中,
Wondering what the Jina is saying. {25}想知道勝者在說什麼。
“Those who are intent on pratyekabuddhahood,那些致力於辟支佛道的人,

“And yet I am myself still uncertain,「然而我自己還是感到不確定,
Supreme human, of your point.尊貴的人,關於您的論點。
How conclusive is my nirvāṇa我的涅槃有多圓滿確定
Or the practice I have been taught? {29}還是我所被教導的修行方法?
“Emit the sound of the supreme drum發出至高的鼓聲
By relating the nature of this Dharma.通過闡述這個法的本質。
The heart children of the Jina are present here,勝者的心子們在此現前,
Gazing at the Jina with hands together in homage. {30}凝視著勝者,雙手合十禮敬。{30}
“There are devas and nāgas together with yakṣas and rākṣasas有天眾、龍眾,以及藥叉眾和羅剎眾
In many billions, as numerous as the Ganges sands.數量多如恆河沙粒,有許多億。
There are eighty thousand present of those有八萬位現在已經聚集的那些
Who are intent upon supreme enlightenment. {31}他們都致力於追求無上菩提。
“There are great monarchs, cakravartin kings「有大轉輪聖王
Who have come from billions of realms.從數十億界而來的轉輪聖王。
They have respectfully placed their hands together.他們恭敬地合掌。
How can we make our practice perfect?” {32}我們怎樣才能使我們的修行圓滿?
2.39When Śāriputra had thus spoken, the Bhagavān asked him, “Śāriputra, why should I teach this? What would be the reason? Śāriputra, if I were to teach the meaning of this, [F.15.b] it would alarm this world with its devas.”
2.39舍利弗這樣說完後,薄伽梵問他說:「舍利弗,我為什麼要教導這個呢?有什麼理由呢?舍利弗,如果我要教導這個的意義,就會使這個世界連同天眾感到驚恐。」
Then Brother Śāriputra for a second time made his request to the Bhagavān, saying, “Bhagavān, I request that you teach this meaning. I request that the Sugata teach it. Why is that? Bhagavān, in this assembly there are many hundreds of beings, many thousands of beings, many hundred thousands of beings, many hundred thousand quintillions of beings, who have seen past buddhas and are endowed with wisdom, and they will have faith in the teaching of the Bhagavān, will have conviction in it, and will uphold it.”
那時舍利弗弟子再次向薄伽梵祈請說:「薄伽梵,我祈請您教說此義。我祈請善逝教說它。為什麼呢?薄伽梵,在這個集會中有許多百個眾生,許多千個眾生,許多十萬個眾生,許多十萬倍眾生,他們曾經見過過去諸佛,具足智慧,他們將對薄伽梵的教法產生信心,將對它產生確信,並將受持它。」
2.40Then at that time Brother Śāriputra recited this verse:
“There are thousands of beings in this assembly「此集會中有千萬眾生
Who have faith in, delight in, and venerate the Sugata,對於善逝具有信心、歡喜和恭敬的人,
And they will understand the Dharma that you teach.他們會理解你所教導的法。
Therefore, king and lord of humans, I request that you clearly teach.” {33}因此,人類的王和主宰啊,我懇請你清楚地開示。{33}
2.41Then the Bhagavān said a second time to Brother Śāriputra. “Śāriputra, if I were to teach the meaning of this it would alarm this world with its devas, and it would cause bhikṣus who have great pride to fall into a great abyss.”
2.41薄伽梵第二次對舍利弗說:「舍利弗,假如我要說明這個意義,就會驚動這個世界的天眾,也會使有大驕慢的比丘眾墮入深淵。」
2.42Thereupon the Bhagavān spoke this verse:
“I have taught enough of this Dharma.「我已經充分宣說過這個法了。
This wisdom is subtle and cannot be analyzed.此智慧微妙,不可思議。
There are many present who are foolish and proud.在場有很多愚癡又傲慢的人。
They will not understand and will reject my teaching.” {34}他們將不會理解,並且會拒絕我的教法。
2.43Then Brother Śāriputra made a third request to the Bhagavān, saying, “I request that the Bhagavān teach. I request that the Sugata teach. Bhagavān, in this assembly there are many hundreds who are like me. Bhagavān, there are many hundreds of such beings, many thousands of such beings, many hundred thousands of such beings, many hundred thousand quintillions of such beings, and there are others who were ripened by the Bhagavān in their previous existences. [F.16.a] They will have faith in, have conviction in, and will uphold the Bhagavān’s teaching, and for a long time it will bring them benefit, welfare, and happiness.”
2.43那時舍利弗再次向薄伽梵祈求說:「我祈請薄伽梵開示教法。我祈請善逝開示教法。薄伽梵,在這個集會中有許多百位眾生如我一樣。薄伽梵,有許多百位這樣的眾生,許多千位這樣的眾生,許多十萬位這樣的眾生,許多百萬位這樣的眾生,還有其他眾生在過去世已被薄伽梵成熟。他們將對薄伽梵的教法生起信心、堅定信念,並受持您的教法,長久以來這將為他們帶來利益、福祉和安樂。」
2.44Then at that time Brother Śāriputra recited these verses:
“Supreme human, teach the Dharma.「至高的人啊,請教導法。
I, your senior son, make this request to you.我,您的長子,向您提出這個請求。
Here there are present billions of beings這裡有數十億的眾生現身在場
Who will have faith in the Dharma you teach. {35}誰將對你所教導的法有信心。{35}
“These beings, who in their previous lives「這些眾生,在他們過去的生命中
You constantly ripened over a very long time,你長期不斷地成熟。
Are all standing here with hands in homage.都在這裡恭敬地合掌禮敬。
They will have faith in this Dharma. {36}他們會對這個法產生信心。{36}
“There are twelve hundred here who are like me,「這裡有一千二百位,都像我一樣,
Who are established in the highest enlightenment.已經證得最高菩提的人。
Sugata, regard them and give your teaching善逝,請觀察他們,傳授你的教法。
So that they will experience the highest happiness.” {37}好讓他們體驗最高的幸福。{37}
2.47Then the Bhagavān, knowing Brother Śāriputra had made this request for the third time, said these words to Brother Śāriputra: “Śāriputra, now that you have made this request to the Tathāgata three times, I have said what I had to say about your request. Therefore, Śāriputra, listen carefully and remember, for I will give you the teaching.”
2.47薄伽梵知道舍利弗已經第三次提出了這個請求,於是對舍利弗說道:「舍利弗,你已經向如來請求了三次,我已經說明了對你請求的看法。因此,舍利弗,你要仔細聽,牢牢記住,因為我現在要給你傳授教法。」
2.48As soon as the Bhagavān had consented, more than five thousand arrogant bhikṣus, bhikṣuṇīs, upāsakas, and upāsikās within that assembly rose from their seats, bowed down their heads to the Bhagavān’s feet, and departed from the assembly. As a result of their arrogance they believed that they had obtained roots of merit when they had not obtained them, and believed they had realization when they did not have realization. They had become aware of their own error and departed from that assembly, the Bhagavān giving his permission to do so by remaining silent.
2.48薄伽梵同意之後,集會中有五千多位憍慢的比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞和優婆夷從座位上站起來,向薄伽梵的足下頂禮,然後離開了集會。由於他們的憍慢,他們相信自己已經獲得了善根,實際上卻沒有獲得;相信自己已經得到了證悟,實際上卻沒有得到。他們意識到了自己的錯誤,離開了集會。薄伽梵保持沉默,給予他們離開的許可。
2.49Then the Bhagavān said to Brother Śāriputra, “Śāriputra, my assembly has become free of its dregs. [F.16.b] Śāriputra, it has become free of those who were worthless, while those for whom faith is essential remain. It is good that those who are arrogant have departed. Therefore, Śāriputra, I shall teach that meaning.”
2.49薄伽梵隨即對舍利弗說道:「舍利弗,我的僧團已經去除了渣滓。舍利弗,已經清除了那些無用之人,而具足信根的人都留了下來。那些憍慢的人已經離開了,這是很好的。因此,舍利弗,我現在就為你們演說那個意義。」
“Excellent, Bhagavān!” Śāriputra replied, and he listened to the Bhagavān.

2.50“Śāriputra,” said the Bhagavān, “a tathāgata rarely teaches this kind of Dharma. Śāriputra, just as fig tree flowers rarely appear, a tathāgata rarely teaches this kind of Dharma. Śāriputra, believe me, I am speaking the truth. I am speaking correctly. I am not speaking otherwise.
2.50「舍利弗,如來難得教授這樣的法。舍利弗,就像無花果花難得出現一樣,如來難得教授這樣的法。舍利弗,你應該相信我,我說的是真實的話。我說得正確。我沒有說其他的話。」薄伽梵如是說。
“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas’ teaching that contains an inner meaning is difficult to understand. Why is that? Śāriputra, I teach the Dharma by using various definitions, expressions, and parables, using hundreds of thousands of different skillful methods.
「舍利弗,如來所教的具有深層內涵的法很難理解。為什麼呢?舍利弗,我用各種定義、言說和譬喻來教法,運用數十萬種不同的方便。」
2.51“Śāriputra, that Dharma cannot be analyzed. It is beyond the scope of sophists; it is what is known by a tathāgata. Why is that? Śāriputra, a tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into the world in order to perform one deed, one action: a great deed and a great action.
2.51「舍利弗,那個法是不可分析的。它超越了辯論家的範圍;它是如來所知道的。為什麼呢?舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等覺佛來到這個世界是為了做一件事、一個行動:一個偉大的行為和一個偉大的行動。
“Śāriputra, what is a tathāgata’s one deed and one action, his great deed and great action, for which a tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into the world? A tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into this world for the sake of causing beings to acquire the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. A tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into this world [F.17.a] in order to reveal to beings the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. A tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into this world in order that beings will enter the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. A tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into this world in order that beings will realize the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. A tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha comes into this world in order that beings will enter the path to the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom.
舍利弗,如來、阿羅漢、正等覺所說的一個事業和一個行動、一個大事業和一個大行動是什麼?如來、阿羅漢、正等覺來到這個世界,是為了使眾生獲得如來眾的智慧之見。如來、阿羅漢、正等覺來到這個世界,是為了向眾生顯示如來眾的智慧之見。如來、阿羅漢、正等覺來到這個世界,是為了使眾生進入如來眾的智慧之見。如來、阿羅漢、正等覺來到這個世界,是為了使眾生體悟如來眾的智慧之見。如來、阿羅漢、正等覺來到這個世界,是為了使眾生進入趣向如來眾的智慧之見的道路。
2.52“Śāriputra, a tathāgata appears in this world for that one deed and one action, for that one great deed and one great action, and with that one intention.
2.52「舍利弗,如來出現於世間,是為了那一個事業和一個行動,那一個偉大的事業和偉大的行動,具有那一個意圖。」
“Śāriputra, in that way a tathāgata accomplishes that one deed and one action, that one great deed and great action of the tathāgatas. Why is that? Śāriputra, I cause the acquisition of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. I reveal the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. Śāriputra, I cause entry into the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. Śāriputra, I cause the realization of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom. Śāriputra, I cause entry into the path to the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom.
「舍利弗,如來就是如此成就那一項事業和行動,那一項如來眾的偉大事業和偉大行動。為什麼呢?舍利弗,我使眾生獲得如來智慧的視見。我向眾生開示如來智慧的視見。舍利弗,我使眾生進入如來智慧的視見。舍利弗,我使眾生實現如來智慧的視見。舍利弗,我使眾生進入通往如來智慧視見的道路。」
2.53“Śāriputra, I also I teach the Dharma to beings through a single yāna, which is the Buddhayāna, ultimate omniscience. There are no second or third yānas.
2.53舍利弗,我也對眾生宣說唯一的乘,就是佛乘,究竟的一切智。沒有第二乘或第三乘。
“Śāriputra, this is the true nature everywhere in all worlds in the ten directions. Why is that? Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas [F.17.b] who in the past have appeared in countless, innumerable worlds in the ten directions have known the thoughts that are the various aspirations, natures, and intentions of beings. For the sake of many beings, for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, and with compassion for the world, for the sake of a great number of beings, and for the benefit and happiness of devas and humans, they taught the Dharma by using a variety of teachings on accomplishment, and various teachings on causes, reasons, parables, supports, and skillful methods.
「舍利弗,這就是在十方所有世界中普遍存在的真實性。為什麼呢?舍利弗,過去曾在十方無數無量的世界中出現的如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛,他們都知道眾生各種不同的思想、根性和意向。為了利益許多眾生,為了眾生的福樂,為了悲悯世間,為了利益和福樂天眾和人類,他們運用各種不同的教法、各種成就的教導,以及因緣、理由、譬喻、依據和方便來為眾生說法。」
2.54“Śāriputra, all those tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas taught the Dharma to beings through a single yāna, which is the Buddhayāna, ultimate omniscience. It is the teaching of the Dharma that causes the acquisition of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, reveals the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes entry into the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes the realization of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, and causes entry into the path to the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom.

“Śāriputra, all the beings who heard that Dharma from those tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas in the past attained the highest, supreme enlightenment.

2.55“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas who in the future will appear in countless, innumerable worlds in the ten directions will also know the thoughts that are the various aspirations, natures, and intentions of beings. For the sake of many beings, for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, and with compassion for the world, for the sake of a great number of beings, and for the benefit and happiness of devas and humans, [F.18.a] they will teach the Dharma by using a variety of teachings on accomplishment, and various teachings on causes, reasons, parables, supports, and skillful methods.
2.55「舍利弗,未來在十方無數無量世界中出現的如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛,也將了知眾生心中的各種發願、本性和意願。為了利益許多眾生,為了幫助許多眾生,為了讓許多眾生得到幸福,以悲心關懷世界,為了幫助大量眾生,為了讓天眾和人類得到利益和幸福,他們將通過各種成就的教法,以及各種關於因、理由、譬喻、依處和方便的教法來教授法。」
2.56“Śāriputra, all those tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas will teach the Dharma to beings through a single yāna, which is the Buddhayāna, ultimate omniscience. It is the teaching of the Dharma that causes the acquisition of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, reveals the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes entry into the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes the realization of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, and causes entry into the path to the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom.
2.56「舍利弗,所有的如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛將透過單一的乘——即佛乘、究竟的一切智——向眾生教法。這樣的法教能夠引發對如來智慧之見的獲得,揭示如來智慧之見,促成進入如來智慧之見,導致實現如來智慧之見,並促成進入通往如來智慧之見之道。
“Śāriputra, all the beings who hear that Dharma from those tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas in the future will attain the highest, supreme enlightenment.
「舍利弗,一切眾生若從彼等如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛於未來時所說之法,皆當成就最高、無上菩提。」
2.57“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas who in the present have appeared in countless, innumerable worlds in the ten directions also know the thoughts that are the various aspirations, natures, and intentions of beings. For the sake of many beings, for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, and with compassion for the world, for the sake of a great number of beings, and for the benefit and happiness of devas and humans, they teach the Dharma by using a variety of teachings on accomplishment, and various teachings on causes, reasons, parables, supports, and skillful methods.
2.57「舍利弗,現在在十方無數、無量的世界中出現的如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛,也都知道眾生各種不同的發願、本性和意圖。為了利益許多眾生,為了幫助許多眾生,為了使許多眾生獲得幸福,以悲心對待世界,為了利益眾多的眾生,以及為了天眾和人類的利益和幸福,他們用各種成就的教法,以及各種關於因、理由、譬喻、支持和方便的教法來傳授法。」
2.58“Śāriputra, all those tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas teach the Dharma to beings through a single yāna, which is the Buddhayāna, ultimate omniscience. [F.18.b] It is the teaching of the Dharma that causes the acquisition of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, reveals the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes entry into the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes the realization of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, and causes entry into the path to the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom.
2.58「舍利弗,所有那些如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛都以單一的乘——佛乘、究竟一切智——向眾生教法。這是教法的教導,它使眾生獲得如來智慧的視見,顯現如來智慧的視見,使眾生進入如來智慧的視見,使眾生證悟如來智慧的視見,並使眾生進入通往如來智慧視見的道路。」
“Śāriputra, all the beings who hear that Dharma from those tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas will attain the highest, supreme enlightenment.

2.59“Śāriputra, in that same way, I am a tathāgata, arhat, perfectly enlightened buddha who knows the thoughts that are the various aspirations, natures, and intentions of beings. For the sake of many beings, for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, and with compassion for the world, for the sake of a great number of beings, and for the benefit and happiness of devas and humans, I teach the Dharma by using a variety of teachings on accomplishment, and various teachings on causes, reasons, parables, supports, and skillful methods.
2.59舍利弗,我也是同樣的如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛,了知眾生的各種發願、根性和心意。為了利益眾多眾生,為了幫助眾多眾生,為了眾多眾生的快樂,以及出於對世界的悲心,為了利益和幸福的緣故,我用各種教導方式、各種因、理由、譬喻、支持和方便來為眾生講說法。
2.60“Śāriputra, I also teach the Dharma to beings through a single yāna, which is the Buddhayāna, ultimate omniscience. It is the teaching of the Dharma that causes the acquisition of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, reveals the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes entry into the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, causes the realization of the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom, and causes entry into the path to the vision of the tathāgatas’ wisdom.
2.60「舍利弗,我也是通過單一的乘,即佛乘、究竟一切智來向眾生教法。這個法的教法能夠引發獲得如來智慧的視見,展現如來智慧的視見,導致進入如來智慧的視見,導致證得如來智慧的視見,並導致進入如來智慧視見的道路。」
“Śāriputra, all the beings who now hear that Dharma from me [F.19.a] will also attain the highest, supreme enlightenment.
「舍利弗,一切現在聽聞我說此法的眾生,也都將成就最高、無上菩提。」
“Śāriputra, know that in this teaching there is no second yāna anywhere in any world in the ten directions, so how could there be a third?
「舍利弗,你應知道,在這個教法中,十方世界裡任何地方都沒有第二乘,怎麼可能有第三乘呢?
2.61“However, when tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas appear during the degeneration of an eon, or when there is the degeneration of beings, degeneration through the kleśas, degeneration of view, or degeneration of lifespan, then, Śāriputra, when there is that turmoil of the degeneration of the era, many defilements, and beings have craving and few roots of merit, then, Śāriputra, the tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas with skill in methods teach that single Buddhayāna as a teaching of three yānas.
2.61「然而,舍利弗,當如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛在劫濁時出現,或者有眾生濁、煩惱濁、見濁或命濁時,舍利弗,當那時代濁亂、煩惱眾多、眾生貪愛、善根稀少時,舍利弗,那些如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛以方便力,將唯一的佛乘教法,教示為三乘的教法。」
2.62“Śāriputra, those śrāvakas, arhats, and pratyekabuddhas who do not listen to, do not engage in, and do not comprehend the activity of the tathāgatas that causes the acquisition of the Buddhayāna, you should know that they, Śāriputra, are not śrāvakas of the Buddha, and you should know that they are not his arhats or pratyekabuddhas.
2.62「舍利弗,那些聲聞、阿羅漢和辟支佛,他們不聽聞、不修習、不理解如來的活動——這種活動能夠導致獲得佛乘——你應該知道,舍利弗,他們不是佛的聲聞,你應該知道他們也不是佛的阿羅漢或辟支佛。
“Also, Śāriputra, those bhikṣus or bhikṣuṇīs who vow to become arhats do not possess the aspiration to the highest, complete enlightenment. They say, ‘I have cut myself off from the Buddhayāna; this is my last existence, my nirvāṇa.’
「舍利弗,那些發願成為阿羅漢的比丘或比丘尼,不具有追求無上正等正覺的發願。他們說,『我已經脫離了佛乘;這是我最後一次生存,就是我的涅槃。』
2.63“Śāriputra, know them to be arrogant. Why is that? Śāriputra, it is impossible that a bhikṣu arhat, whose defilements have ceased, who hears this Dharma in the presence of the Tathāgata, will be unable to have faith in it, unless it is after the Tathāgata’s nirvāṇa. Why is that? Śāriputra, at the time, after the Tathāgata’s nirvāṇa, [F.19.b] these śrāvakas will not preserve or teach this kind of sūtra.
2.63「舍利弗,汝應知彼為憍慢。何以故?舍利弗,比丘阿羅漢,其煩惱已盡,在如來前聞此法教,不能生信,此事不可能,除非在如來涅槃之後。何以故?舍利弗,在當時,如來涅槃之後,彼等聲聞眾不會保持或宣說此類經典。」
2.64“Śāriputra, they will have no doubt concerning this Dharma teaching from other tathāgatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened buddhas. Śāriputra, have faith in me, trust in me, and have confidence in me.
2.64「舍利弗,他們對於其他如來、阿羅漢、正等正覺佛的法教,將不會有疑惑。舍利弗,你要對我有信心,相信我,對我有信任。」
“Śāriputra, the tathāgatas do not lie. This one yāna, Śāriputra, is the Buddhayāna.”
「舍利弗,如來不虛妄。舍利弗,此唯一乘,即是佛乘。」
2.65At that time the Buddha taught this topic in detail by reciting these verses:
“The arrogant bhikṣus, bhikṣuṇīs,「那些憍慢的比丘、比丘尼,
Upāsakas, and upāsikās優婆塞和優婆夷
Who are devoid of faith缺乏信心的人
Number no fewer than five hundred. {38}不少於五百人。{38}
“Having impaired training,破壞了修行,
They saw this wrong of theirs,他們看到了自己的這個過失,
And concealing their flaws,隱藏他們的缺點,
The foolish ones departed. {39}愚癡的人離開了。{39}
“They do not have the good karma「他們沒有善業
For listening to this Dharma.用來聽聞這個法。
Knowing them to be the very dregs of this assembly知道他們是這個集會中最下賤的人
I, the Lord of the World, gave them leave. {40}我,世界的主宰,讓他們離開。{40}
“Those now present in my assembly「現在在我的聚集中的這些人
Are pure and free of the chaff.都是純淨無雜的。
All who are extraneous have departed所有外人都已離去
And these who remain are the essence. {41}而留下來的都是精英。{41}
“Listen to me, Śārisuta! The supreme beings,「你要聽我說,舍利弗!這些至高無上的聖者,
The guides, the buddhas have taught導師、諸佛所說教
The perfect Dharma of the buddhas諸佛的完美之法
With many hundreds of skillful methods. {42}用許多百般的方便。{42}
“In that way I know the thoughts and the conduct「我如是知諸眾生的心念與行為
And the many aspirations of millions of beings,以及數百萬眾生的各種發願,
And I know their various kinds of karma,我知道他們各種各樣的業,
And the good actions they have previously accomplished, {43}以及他們過去所成就的善行,
“And I shall make those beings understand「我將使那些眾生得以理解
Through various definitions and reasons,透過各種定義和理由,
And through hundreds of causes and parables,並且用百種因緣和譬喻,

“I teach through prose and likewise verse,我用散文和偈頌來教導,

Who lack wisdom, who are attracted to inferior paths,缺乏智慧,被吸引到小道的人,
Who do not practice the way of the many millions of buddhas, [F.20.a]不修行諸佛百萬之道的人。
Who are clinging to saṃsāra and suffer deeply. {46}那些執著於輪迴、深陷痛苦之中的眾生。
“A self-arisen one performs this method「一個自然而生的人執行這個方法
So that the wisdom of buddhahood may be realized.使得佛智得以實現。
But I have never said to them,但我從來沒有對他們說過,
‘You will become buddhas in this world.’ {47}「你們將在此世界成佛。」
“Why is that? The Protector waits for an appropriate time,「為什麼呢?教主等待適當的時機,」
And when he sees that time has come he teaches it.當他看到時機已至,他就傳授這個教法。
That appropriate time has somehow arrived today那個適當的時機今天已經到來了
And that is why I shall teach the definitive truth. {48}因此我將傳授究竟真理。
“My teaching has nine aspects,我的教法具有九分教法,
Which are taught according to the strengths of beings.這些教法是根據眾生的力而傳授的。
I teach with this method so that they will approach我用這個方法來教導,使得他們能夠接近
The supreme gift that is wisdom. {49}最殊勝的禮物就是智慧。
“I give the teaching of the extensive sūtras我給予廣大的經教
To those bodhisattvas who are always pure,對那些常常清淨的菩薩們,
Who are wise, unsullied, and gentle,這些人有智慧、清淨且溫和,
Who have served many millions of buddhas. {50}曾經侍奉無數諸佛的眾生。
“As their aspirations are fulfilled"當他們的發願得以成就時
And they have purity of conduct,他們具有清淨的行,
I say that they will be in a future time我說他們在未來時代將會
Beneficial and compassionate buddhas. {51}有利益的悲心諸佛。
“Hearing so, they all are filled with joy,「聽到這樣的說法,他們都充滿了歡喜,
Thinking, ‘We will become buddhas, supreme among beings.’心想「我們將成為佛,眾生中最殊勝者」。
And also, knowing their attitude,並且,知道他們的心態,
I give them the teaching of the extensive sūtras. {52}我給予他們廣大經典的教法。
“Those śrāvakas of the Guide who in this way「那些這樣的導師的聲聞眾,
Have heard this teaching of mine,聽聞了我的這個教法,
They who have heard or retained even one verse,那些聽聞過或受持哪怕一個偈頌的人,
Will all, without doubt, attain enlightenment. {53}將來必定都會毫無疑問地成就菩提。{53}
“Apart from the skillful methods of supreme beings「除了最高的有情眾生所使用的方便之外
Who give the teaching of separate yānas,宣說分別乘的教法的殊勝之人,
There is only one yāna; there is no second,只有一乘;沒有第二乘,
And there is never in the world a third. {54}世界中永遠沒有第三個乘。
“A lord of the world appears in the world「一位世界之主出現在世界中
In order to teach the wisdom of buddhahood.為了教導佛智。
That is his one activity, there is no second:這就是他唯一的活動,沒有第二種:
The buddhas do not guide beings with a lesser yāna. {55}諸佛不以較小的乘來導引眾生。{55}
“A self-arisen one establishes beings「一個自成者建立眾生
In that in which he is himself established:在他自己所成就的佛道中:
In that very same buddhahood,在那同樣的佛道中,
In the strengths, dhyānas, liberations, and powers. {56} [F.20.b]在力、禪定、解脫和力中。
“If having attained preeminent, stainless enlightenment「若我得成佛,居於佛道中,
I were then to establish even one being我當時只建立了一個眾生
In a lesser yāna, that would not be good:在較小的乘中,那不會是好的:
I would have the fault of stinginess. {57}我就會有慳吝的過失。
“I do not have the slightest stinginess;「我沒有絲毫的吝嗇;
I have no envy and no desire.我沒有嫉妒,也沒有貪欲。
I have eliminated every bad quality.我已經消除了一切不善的品質。
I am a buddha and I understand beings. {58}我是佛,我了解眾生。
“Just as the signs I am adorned by「正如我所莊嚴的相好
Illuminate all these worlds,照亮所有這些世界,
I give the teaching of this seal of the Dharma’s nature我向眼前許多百般的眾生傳授這法性的印記的教法
To the many hundreds of beings who are before me. {59}對面前的眾多百千個眾生。{59}
“This is what I think of, Śāriputra:「舍利弗,這是我所思考的:
‘How may all beings become「怎樣才能讓所有眾生
Possessed of a body with the thirty-two signs具足三十二相的身體
And be self-luminous, self-arising knowers of the world?’ {60}並且自我發光、自我生起的世界知者?
“Just as I saw and just as I thought,「就像我所見到的,以及我所思考的,」
And just as I resolved in the past,就像我過去所發願的一樣,
My aspirations have been fulfilled我的發願已經圓滿成就
And I teach enlightenment and buddhahood. {61}我教導菩提和佛道。
“If, Śārisuta, I were to say to beings,「舍利弗,如果我對眾生說,
‘Develop the desire for buddhahood,’「培養成就佛道的貪欲」
All who are ignorant would be bewildered所有愚昧的人都會感到困惑

“I have the knowledge of their nature;「我具有了知他們本性的智慧;
They have not practiced the way in previous lifetimes.他們在本生中沒有修行過聖道。

They are stupefied by craving and bewildered by ignorance. {63}他們被貪愛所迷惑,被無明所蒙蔽。{63}
“Desire causes them to fall into the lower existences.「貪欲使他們墮入惡道。
They are tormented within the six existences.他們在六道中受到折磨。
They increase the charnel grounds over and over.他們一次又一次地增加墳墓。
They have little merit and are tortured by suffering. {64}他們功德很少,受到苦的折磨。{64}
“They constantly cling to the darkness of wrong views:他們長期執著於邪見的黑暗中:
That things exist, do not exist, and similarly both exist and do not exist.認為事物存在、不存在,以及同樣既存在又不存在。
They rely upon the sixty-two fabricated views.他們依賴於六十二見。

“Śārisuta, I teach to them the method舍利弗,我向他們教導修行的方法
That will bring an end to their suffering.那樣就能夠終止他們的苦難。
On seeing beings tortured by suffering看見眾生為苦所折磨
I then give to them the teaching of nirvāṇa. {67}我隨後給予他們涅槃的教法。{67}
“Thus I give all these Dharma teachings「如是我給予一切眾生法教
Of eternal nirvāṇa and primordial peace,永恆的涅槃與原始的寂靜,
While a bodhisattva who has perfected his practice當一位已經圓滿修行的菩薩時
Will in a future time become a jina. {68}將在未來的時間成為勝者。
“Similarly, the three yānas that I teach「同樣地,我所教導的三乘
Are a skillful method of mine.是我的方便。
There is but one yāna, but one way—只有一個乘,只有一條道路——
There is but this one teaching of the guides. {69}只有這一種導師的教法。
“Those of you here who have doubt about this「你們在這裡有人對這個感到懷疑
Should dispel your doubt and your uncertainty.應該消除你的疑惑和不確定。
The guides of the world do not teach anything else.世界的導師不教導任何其他的教法。
There is but this one yāna; there is no second. {70}只有這一乘,沒有第二乘。
“The tathāgatas who have appeared in the past,「過去出現的如來,
The many thousands of buddhas who have entered nirvāṇa那些已經進入涅槃的無數諸佛
In the countless eons of the past在無數的過去劫中
Could never be enumerated. {71}無有能數者。
“All those supreme beings「那些最高尚的存在者
Gave many pure Dharma teachings給予了許多清淨的法教
Through parables, causes, and reasons,通過譬喻、因緣和道理,
And through hundreds of skillful methods. {72}並且通過百般方便。
“All of them taught one yāna.他們都教授一乘。
They brought countless billions他們將無數百億的眾生引入那唯一的乘中
Of beings into that single yāna把眾生引入那唯一的乘
And ripened them in that single yāna. {73}並在那個單一的乘中使他們成熟。{73}
“The tathāgatas, in a world with its devas,「如來在有天眾的世界中,
Knowing the aspirations and thoughts of beings,了知眾生的發願和思想,
Are teaching this supreme Dharma正在教授這無上的法

“Those beings who in their presence「那些在他們面前的眾生
Are listening to the Dharma or have listened to it,正在聽聞法或已經聽聞過法的眾生,
Who have practiced generosity, maintained good conduct,曾經修習布施、持戒的人
Who have accomplished all practices with patience, {75}通過忍辱圓滿成就所有修行者,
“Who have served with diligence and meditation,「誰以精進和禪定來侍奉,
Who have contemplated with wisdom these Dharma teachings,已經用智慧觀察這些法教的人,
And have created various kinds of merit:並且創造了各種功德:
They will all of them attain enlightenment. {76}他們都將證得菩提。
“Those beings who have followed the teaching那些跟隨教法的眾生
Of the jinas who have passed into nirvāṇa, [F.21.b]那些已經進入涅槃的勝者,
And who are patient, peaceful, and self-controlled:以及那些具有耐心、寂靜和自我控制的人:
They will all of them attain enlightenment. {77}他們都將證得菩提。
“Those who make offerings to the relics「那些向舍利做供養的人
Of the jinas who have passed into nirvāṇa,那些已經進入涅槃的勝者眾,
And have built countless thousands of stūpas並建造了無數千萬座塔廟
That are made of jewels, gold, and silver, {78}用珠寶、黃金和白銀製成的,

“Those who make them from the seven precious materials,「用七寶製作這些佛像的人,
Those who make them from copper and bronze,用銅和青銅製作的人,
Those who have made statues of the sugatas:那些製作善逝塑像的人:
They will all of them attain enlightenment. {84}他們都將獲得菩提。{84}
“Those who have representations of the sugatas made「那些製作善逝眾塑像的人
From lead, from iron, or from clay,用鉛、用鐵或用泥土,
Or beautifully painted on cloth:或者精美地繪製在布上:
They will all of them attain enlightenment. {85}他們都將證得菩提。{85}
“Those who paint their representations in murals,「那些在壁畫中繪製佛像的人,
Their entire bodies with a hundred signs of merit,他們的全身具有百種功德的標誌,

Those jinas, supreme lords of the world,那些勝者,世界的最高統治者,
They will also teach these methods. {98}他們也將傳授這些方法。
“They who guide millions of beings他們引導無數眾生
To the immaculate wisdom of buddhahood,達到無垢的佛智,
Those guides of the world那些世界的導師
Will have infinite skill in methods. {99}具有無量的方便。
“There will never be even one being「永遠不會有任何眾生
Who has heard this Dharma teaching that will not become a buddha.聽聞這個法教的人,沒有誰不會成佛的。
The prayer of the tathāgatas is:如來眾的願望是:
‘Having followed the path, may I make others follow it for enlightenment.’ {100}「沿著道路而行,願我讓他人為了菩提而跟隨。」
“They will teach in the future times他們將在未來時代教導
Many thousand millions of entrances to the Dharma.無數千萬個進入法門的途徑。
In buddhahood, they will teach the Dharma在佛道中,他們將教導法。
Through teaching this single yāna. {101}通過教導這個單一的乘。{101}
“This way of the Dharma is always constant;「這樣的法道是永恆不變的;
The nature of the Dharma is always illuminating.法的本質是常常照亮一切。

The buddhas in the center of the earth位於大地中心的諸佛
Will expound buddhahood and skillfulness in methods. {103}將會宣說佛道與方便善巧。
“The buddhas, as numerous as the Ganges sands,「諸佛如恆河沙數,
Present in the ten directions, to whom humans and devas make offerings,遍佈十方,受到人類和天眾供養的諸佛,
Also teach this supreme yāna也為眾生宣說此殊勝乘。
For the sake of the happiness of all beings. {104}為了一切眾生的幸福。{104}
“The buddhas expound skillfulness in methods,「諸佛宣說方便善巧,
And they teach different kinds of yānas.而他們教導不同種類的乘。
They also elucidate the single yāna,他們也闡釋單一乘,
This supreme level of peace. {105}這至高無上的寂靜境界。
“They teach through knowing the conduct of all beings他們透過瞭解一切眾生的行,而進行教導
And similarly their thoughts and past practice,同樣地,他們的思想和過去的修行,
Knowing their strengths and their diligence,了知他們的力和精進,

I teach this enlightenment of buddhahood我教導這佛道的菩提
Through billions of various kinds of practices. {108}通過數十億種各式各樣的修行。
“Knowing the thoughts and aspirations of beings知道眾生的心念和發願
I teach the Dharma in many different forms.我用許多不同的方式教導法。
I gladden them through various methods:我用各種方法使他們歡喜:

“I also see that destitute beings我也看到貧困的眾生
Are without wisdom and merit.沒有智慧和功德。

They had heard the Dharma from the jinas他們從勝者眾聽聞了法

“Then in that instant I had this thought:「那時在那一刻,我產生了這個想法:
‘The time has come for me to teach the highest Dharma.我成佛的時候到了,應該為眾生宣說最高的法。
It is for that purpose that I was born into this world我之所以降生到這個世界,就是為了這個目的。
And I shall teach here the highest enlightenment. {130}我將在此處教導最高的菩提。
“ ‘Those with foolish understanding, who conceptualize characteristics,「那些理解愚昧的人,執著於特徵的概念,

I spoke in the middle of the offspring of the sugatas我在善逝眾的後嗣中說法

“Having seen children of the buddhas such as these,「看見了這樣的諸佛之子,
You too should be one who has banished doubt.你們也應當成為已經除去疑惑的人。
These twelve hundred who have no defilements這一千二百位已斷除煩惱的人們
Will all become buddhas in this world. {133}都將在此世界成佛。
“Just like the nature of the past protectors就像過去的諸佛一樣
And like that of the jinas in the future,如同未來勝者的本性,
I too have eliminated conceptualization我也已經消除了概念化的思維

“Sometimes, somewhere, somehow,「有時,在某處,以某種方式,

And these who are eminent bodhisattvas,這些傑出的菩薩們,

“Why is that? In the time of five degenerations「為什麼呢?在五濁的時代裡
There are beings who are cruel and evil.有些眾生兇惡邪惡。

And they will never develop the aspiration to enlightenment. {141}他們永遠不會發願追求菩提。
“In future times, beings will be confused,"未來時代中,眾生將會迷惑,"
And having heard this single yāna of mine並聽聞了我這唯一的乘
That has been taught by the Jina,這是勝者所教導的。
They will reject the discourse and go to hell. {142}他們將拒絕這個教法而墮入地獄。{142}
“To those beings who will be modest and pure「對於那些將會謙遜而清淨的眾生們
And are intent upon the supreme, highest enlightenment,而且致力於追求至高無上的菩提,
To them I will relate without any fear我將毫無懼色地為他們講述
Endless praises of the single yāna. {143}對於唯一乘的無盡讚頌。{143}
“In this way, in the teaching of the guides,「像這樣,在導師們的教法中,
This skill in methods, which is most excellent,這種最殊勝的方便,
Has been taught many times in words with an implied meaning已經用含有隱喻意義的言辭教導過許多次了
That those who are untrained could not understand. {144}那些沒有經過訓練的人無法理解。
“Therefore, understanding the implied meaning taught因此,理解所教導的隱含意義
By the buddhas, the teachers of the world, the protectors,由諸佛、世界的導師、保護者所傳授
Rejecting doubts and abandoning uncertainty,捨棄疑慮,放棄不確定,
You will become buddhas, so be joyous!” {145}你們將成為佛,所以要歡喜!
