Chapter 31: The Entrustment
第三十一章：付囑
31.1Then the Bhagavat said to the entire assembly of all the bodhisattvas and the devas and humans, “You should know this: I have taught you the true cause of enlightenment, the extremely profound Dharma that I obtained through undergoing hardships with dedicated diligence throughout countless, innumerable eons.
31.1然後薄伽梵對全體菩薩們和諸天人眾說：「你們應當知道，我已經教導你們菩提的真正因緣，這是極為深奧的法。我通過在無數無量的劫中，以堅定的精進承受種種艱難苦行而證得的。」
31.2“You should develop a courageous mind, and after my nirvāṇa you should, with veneration, protect this Dharma teaching, [F.149.a] promulgate it widely, and ensure that this Dharma will remain for a long time.”
31.2「你們應當培養勇敢的心，在我涅槃之後，應當以恭敬心保護這部法教，廣泛宣揚它，並確保這部法在世間長久住世。」
31.3Then from among that great assembly, six hundred million great bodhisattvas and the assembled multitude of six hundred million devas said in one voice, “Bhagavat, all of us have that motivation of aspiration, so that we will, with veneration, protect the true cause of enlightenment, the extremely profound Dharma that you attained through undergoing hardships with dedicated diligence throughout countless, innumerable eons. Bhagavat, after your nirvāṇa, without any care for our bodies and lives, we will promulgate this Dharma teaching widely, so that the true Dharma will remain in the world for a long time.”
31.3那時從這個大眾之中，六百萬位大菩薩和六百萬位諸天的集合眾，用同一聲音說道：「薄伽梵，我們所有人都具有這樣的願望心念，所以我們將恭敬地保護真實的菩提因，即你通過在無數無量劫中辛苦修習精進而證得的極其深妙的法。薄伽梵，在你涅槃之後，我們將不顧身命，廣泛地傳揚這個法教，使得真實的法能夠在世間長時間地存留。」
31.4Those bodhisattva mahāsattvas then recited these verses in the presence of the Bhagavat:
31.4那些菩薩摩訶薩們在薄伽梵面前誦讀了這些偈頌：
“Bhagavat, you speak the words of genuine truth;「薄伽梵，您說的是真實的言語；」
You have entered completely into the true Dharma—你已經完全進入了真實的法——
Through the power of that genuine truth,藉著那真實的力量，
We will protect and keep this sūtra.我們將保護和守持這部經。
“You wear the armor of great compassion,你穿著大慈悲的鎧甲，
And you remain within great compassion.而你常住於大慈悲中。
Through the power of your love and compassion,藉由你的慈心與慈悲之力，
We will protect and keep this sūtra.我們將保護並受持此經。
“You have completed the accumulation of merit,你已經圓滿了功德的積聚，
And you have given rise to the accumulation of wisdom—你們已經成就了智慧的積累——
In order to complete the accumulations,為了圓滿這些功德與智慧的積累，
We will protect and keep this sūtra.我們將保護和受持這部經。
“You have subjugated all the Māras.「你已經降伏了所有的魔。
You have destroyed all false teachings.你已摧毀一切邪教。
In order to dispel all evil views,為了消除一切邪見，
We will protect and keep this sūtra.我們會保護並維持這部經。
“The world protectors and Śakra,世間的保護者和帝釋天、
Brahmā, and the asuras,梵天、阿修羅，
The nāgas, yakṣas, and so on龍王、夜叉等
Will protect and keep this sūtra.將保護和守持此經。
“Those who dwell on the earth and in the sky, [F.149.b]那些住在地上和天空中的，
Those who dwell here for a long time,那些久住於此的眾生，
Those who hold the Bhagavat’s teaching那些受持薄伽梵教法的人
Will protect and keep this sūtra.將護持此經。
“In accordance with the four brahmavihāras,「依據四無量心，
The Bhagavat is adorned by the four noble truths.薄伽梵以四聖諦而莊嚴。
Because he subdued the four māras,因為他降伏了四魔，
We will protect and keep this sūtra.我們將會保護和守護這部經。
“It is possible that space may become solid.虛空可能變成堅固之物。
It is possible that the solid will become space.堅固的東西可能會變成虛空。
But that which is held and protected by the buddhas但是那些被諸佛所護持的
Cannot be shaken or unsettled by anyone.”不會被任何人動搖或破壞。
31.13Then the Four Mahārājas, having heard the Bhagavat teach that this Dharma should be protected, all gave rise to rejoicing in their minds, and with the motivation to completely protect the true Dharma, they recited these verses in one voice:
31.13然後四大天王聽聞薄伽梵教示應當護持這部法，內心都生起了歡喜，以完全護持真實法的動機，他們異口同聲地誦出這些偈頌：
“We and all our retinues of sons and daughters「我們和我們所有的子女眷屬
Will single-mindedly,必將單一的一心，
Perfectly protect this sūtra完美地保護這部經
And promulgate it widely.並廣泛傳播它。
“We will constantly, from all four directions,我們將時常從四面八方，
Protect and defend and serve those保護和衛護並侍奉那些
Who are in possession of this sūtra擁有這部經的人
And practice the cause of enlightenment.”並修習菩提之因。
31.16Then Śakra, the lord of devas, placed his palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
31.16然後帝釋天，諸天之主，合掌恭敬並誦說這些偈頌：
“The buddhas, having realized the Dharma,「諸佛已經證悟了法，
In order to repay that kindness為了報答那種恩德
And in order to benefit the bodhisattvas,並為了利益菩薩們，
Though they have transcended the world, teach the sūtras.雖然他們已經超越世界，仍然為了教授經法。
“I also, in order to repay their kindness,「我也為了報答他們的恩德，
Constantly make offerings to the buddhas,恆常向諸佛作供養，
And I will protect this sūtra我將保護這部經
And those sūtras similar to this.”以及與此相似的經。
31.19Then the Tuṣita devas placed their palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
“Whoever becomes a holder of「誰成為這部經的持有者，
This sūtra spoken by the Bhagavat薄伽梵所說的這部經
Will dwell within a state of enlightenment [F.150.a]將安住於菩提的境界
And will become a Tuṣita deva.將會成為兜率天的天人。
“Bhagavat, with utmost joy we abandon「薄伽梵，我們以最大的喜心而捨棄
The perfectly ripened result of paradise—圓滿成熟的天界果報——
We will dwell in Jambudvīpa,我們將住在閻浮提，
And we will proclaim this sūtra.”我們將在閻浮提宣揚此經。
31.22Then Brahmā, the lord of the Sahā world realm, the king of devas, placed his palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
31.22時梵天王娑婆世界之主諸天之王，合掌恭敬而說偈言：
“All the dhyānas and the yānas,「所有的禪定和乘法，
And all the countless liberations,還有一切無數的解脫，
All arise from this sūtra,都源自於這部經。
And therefore I will teach this sūtra.因此我將傳授這部經。
“I have abandoned the pleasures of Brahmā「我已放棄梵天的快樂
For the places where this sūtra is taught.為了聽聞這部經而來到教授這部經的地方。
In order to listen to this sūtra,為了聽聞這部經，
I will always protect and defend it.”我會永遠保護和守護它。
31.25Then, Śreṣṭhin, the son of the lord of Māras, placed his palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
31.25那時，魔王之子首富將雙手合掌恭敬，說出以下偈頌：
“Whoever is a holder of this sūtra,「誰是這部經的持有者，」
Which possesses the true meaning,具有真實的意義，
Does not follow the conduct of the Māras不依循魔的行為
And purifies the bad actions of the Māras.並清淨魔的惡行。
“For those who are dedicated to this sūtra,「對於那些致力於此經的人，
I too will give complete protection,我也會給予完整的保護，
And I will develop great diligence我也會培養大精進
And promulgate it widely everywhere.”並在各地廣泛弘揚它。
31.28Then the king of Māras placed his palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
“Whoever possesses this sūtra「誰擁有這部經
And is victorious over the kleśas並克服煩惱
Is a being to whom是一個眾生，我將給予他保護和帶來幸福。
I will give protection and bring happiness.我將給予保護並帶來幸福。
“The Māras will be unable to destroy魔將無法摧毀
Anyone who is a holder of this sūtra.任何人只要是這部經的持有者。
Through the blessing of the Bhagavat,藉由薄伽梵的加持，
I will give my protection to that person.”我將賜予那個人保護。
31.31Then the deva Excellent Auspiciousness placed his palms together in veneration, and in the presence of the Bhagavat spoke these verses:
31.31那時殊勝吉祥天子合掌恭敬，在薄伽梵面前說出這些偈頌：
“From within this sūtra the supreme「從這部經中最殊勝的
Enlightenment of the buddhas is taught,諸佛的菩提被教導出來，
And therefore whoever is a holder of the sūtra因此，凡是受持此經的人
Will be making an offering to the tathāgatas. [F.150.b]將會對如來作供養。
“I will be a keeper of this sūtra「我將成為這部經的守護者
And will teach it to ten million devas.並將此經教導給一千萬位諸天。
I will inspire to the state of enlightenment我將引導他們趣向菩提。
Those who listen to it with veneration.”那些虔誠聆聽它的人。
31.34Then the bodhisattva Maitreya placed his palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
31.34然後菩薩彌勒菩薩合掌恭敬，說出這些偈頌：
“I will see as a friend, without their asking,我會把他們視為朋友，不用他們開口請求，
Someone who is set upon enlightenment,某位致力於菩提的人，
And completely forsaking life and body完全放棄生命和身體
I will protect this king of the sūtras.我將保護這部經之王。
“When I hear this kind of Dharma,「當我聽聞這樣的法時，
Even though I am in the paradise of Tuṣita,即使我在兜率天的天堂中，
Through the power of the Bhagavat’s blessing藉由薄伽梵的祝福力量
I will teach to a vast number of devas and humans.”我將為無數的諸天和人類宣講。
31.37Then the sthavira Mahākāśyapa placed his palms together in veneration and spoke these verses:
31.37那時，長老摩訶迦葉合掌恭敬，說出這些偈頌：
“Bhagavat, you have taught that薄伽梵，您已經教導說
In the Śrāvakayāna there is lesser wisdom.在聲聞乘中有較小的智慧。
Today, through the power of my own strength,今天，藉由我自身力量的加持，
I will be a protector and holder of this sūtra.我將成為此經的保護者和持有者。
“I will give my complete protection「我將給予完整的保護
To whoever will be a holder of this sūtra.對於那些將成為這部經的持有者。
I will bestow on them the power of words and eloquence我將賜予他們言辭的力量和雄辯的能力
And I will follow after them, always proclaiming their excellence.”我也會隨在他們之後，始終宣揚他們的殊勝。
31.40Then Venerable Ānanda placed his palms together and spoke these verses:
“Even though I have heard countless「雖然我已經聽聞了無數
Sūtras directly from the Bhagavat,直接從薄伽梵說出的經，
I have never before heard such我從未曾聽聞過如此
A supreme king of the Dharma as this.如此殊勝的法王經。
“Today I will completely hold this sūtra「今日我將完全受持此經
I have heard directly from the Bhagavat,我曾親自從薄伽梵那裡聽聞過，
And hereafter I will promulgate it widely從今以後，我將廣泛地宣揚它。
Among those who aspire to enlightenment.”在那些願修菩提的人中。
31.43Then the Bhagavat, on seeing that the great assembly of bodhisattvas, devas, and humans had each developed the motivation to widely promulgate and spread this sūtra and completely defend it and completely protect it, and that the bodhisattvas were truly inspired and would benefit beings, praised them, saying, “Well done! Well done! [F.151.a] Your single-mindedly promulgating this sublime, supreme king of sūtras widely in this way, so that it will not dissipate and vanish after my nirvāṇa, is the cause of the highest enlightenment. Therefore you will attain all the merit that can be, which could not be fully described even in as many eons as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River.
31.43薄伽梵見到大菩薩、諸天和人類的大眾都各自生起了廣泛傳揚和流布這部經、完全守護和保護這部經的動機，而且菩薩們真正得到啟發並將利益眾生，就讚歎他們說：「很好！很好！你們就這樣一心一意地在世間廣泛傳揚這部殊勝、至高無上的經王，使它在我涅槃以後不會消散隱沒，這是獲得最高菩提的因。因此你們將獲得一切可能的功德，即使用恆河沙粒那麼多的劫也無法完全描述。
31.44“Any bhikṣu or bhikṣuṇī, upāsaka or upāsikā, and moreover any noble man or noble woman, and so on, who makes offerings to, honors, writes out, widely promulgates, or teaches this sūtra correctly to others will obtain such merit as that.
31.44「任何比丘或比丘尼、優婆塞或優婆夷，以及任何高貴的男子或女子等，凡是對此經做供養、尊敬、抄寫、廣泛傳揚，或正確地為他人講述此經，都將獲得如此功德。」
“Therefore, you should meditate on this practice with diligence.”
31.45Then the great assembly, which was innumerable, incalculable, as numerous as the grains of sand in the Ganges, having heard those words spoken by the Bhagavat, were all completely happy and, obtaining a faith with complete trust, practiced as they had been instructed.
31.45那時，無量無數、恆河沙數的大眾，聽聞薄伽梵所說的這些話，都歡喜踴躍，生起完全的信心，並按照所教導的而修習。
31.46This concludes “The Entrustment,” the thirty-first chapter of “The Supremely Victorious King of Sūtras, the Sublime Golden Light.”
31.47The noble Mahāyāna sūtra “The Supremely Victorious King of Sūtras, the Sublime Golden Light” is concluded.
