第50章

50.1At that time Blessed Vajrapāṇi, the general of the yakṣa s who was in the assembly, got up from his seat, draped his upper robe over the left shoulder, placed his right knee on the ground, bowed to the Blessed One with his palms pressed together, and made the following request: {50.1}

50.1此時,在集會中的夜叉將軍金剛手菩薩從座位上起身,將上衣搭在左肩上,右膝著地,兩掌合十向世尊作禮,並提出以下祈請:{50.1}

50.2“O Blessed One! You have not fully explained the ritual of the lord of wrath called Yamāntaka that was taught by Mañjuśrī, the divine youth. Nor has Mañjuśrī, the divine youth, explained it. I request you, Blessed One, to teach this ritual, out of regard for human beings during the final age, so that, at the time when you are in the state of complete nirvāṇa, when the teachings have disappeared, during the dreadful time of the worst age when the buddhafield is completely devoid of śrāvakas and pratyeka­buddhas, the teachings of the tathāgatas may be preserved, the domain of the Dharma may remain for a long time, all wicked kings may be subdued, those who harm the Three Jewels may be suppressed, the inconceivable bodhisattva conduct may bring the virtues of beings who require guidance to completion, and innumerable sentient beings may be brought to complete maturity. {50.2}

50.2「世尊啊!您尚未完全講說文殊師利妙吉祥天童所傳的忿怒主尊閻曼德迦的儀軌,文殊師利妙吉祥天童也未曾講說過。我懇請世尊為了末劫時期的人類著想而講說這個儀軌,以便在您進入完全涅槃、教法已經消亡、處於最惡劣的恐怖年代、佛土完全沒有聲聞和緣覺佛的時候,諸如來的教法能夠被保存,法界的領域能夠長久存在,所有邪惡的國王能夠被制伏,傷害三寶的人能夠被壓制,不可思議的菩薩行能夠使那些需要引導的有情眾生的善根圓滿,無數的有情眾生能夠達到圓滿成熟。」

50.3“During the final eon, Blessed One, when the final age has arrived in which the Sugata’s instructions perish, [F.272.b] [F.289.b] should one practice this rite of the wrathful lord Yamāntaka correctly, one will attain accomplishment. And this lord of wrath should always be used against none other than those evil kings and sentient beings who harm the teachings, such as the great yakṣa s who are extremely powerful and engage in acts of oppression or assistance but lack great compassion.” {50.3}

50.3「世尊!在最後的劫中,當善逝的教法將要衰滅的最後時代來臨之時,如果有人正確修持忿怒主尊閻曼德迦的儀軌,就能獲得成就。這位忿怒主尊應當只用於對治那些邪惡的國王和傷害教法的有情眾生,例如那些力量極其強大、從事壓迫或幫助之事但缺乏大慈悲的偉大夜叉。」

50.4The Blessed One, remaining silent, entered the samādhi called the buddha’s blessing through miraculous transformation. The divine youth Mañjuśrī, too, remained silent. The entire assembly and its surroundings began to shake in six different ways. {50.4}

50.4世尊保持沉默,進入名為「佛陀的加持神變三昧」的三昧。妙吉祥天童文殊師利也保持沉默。整個集會及其周圍以六種方式震動。{50.4}

The hosts of divine beings, all the youthful lords,
眾多天界有情和所有童子主尊,
Were alarmed and terrified.

All the gods, the nāga s,

The dānava lords, the mātṛs, {50.5}

The grahas, the mukhyas, and so forth‍—

All of the hosts of divine beings trembled.

Human beings also trembled, their minds disturbed,

And so did the evil-minded pūtanas. {50.6}

After that the violently predisposed human kings,
之後那些性情兇暴的人類國王們,
Fearful and distressed,
害怕且苦惱不已,
Took refuge in the instructions
皈依於法王的教誡
Of the Dharma king. {50.7}

Awed by the great radiance of Vajrapāṇi,
被金剛手菩薩的偉大光輝所震撼,
The lord of guhyakas, himself a yakṣa ,
隱密天的主宰,他本身是夜叉,
And by the youthful prince Mañjughoṣa,

Lord of the mantra,
咒語的主。
They forged then, in Mañjughoṣa’s presence,

Then the bodhisattva with the form of a child

Of great splendor addressed them as follows:

“Do not be afraid, all of you gods,
「諸位天神,不要害怕,
Yakṣa s, rākṣasas, and dānavas. {50.10}
夜叉、羅剎和大力鬼。
“Your samaya, now explained to you by me,
「我現在為你們開示的三昧耶,
Cannot be violated by any deity
不能被任何本尊所違犯
By any human or nonhuman being,
任何人類或非人類的眾生都不能違背。
And especially not by any spirit. {50.11}
尤其不能被任何鬼神所違犯。
“Being perpetually of a kind mental disposition, [F.273.a] [F.290.a]
「恆時保持善良的心態,
At all times one should recollect the mantra‍—
在所有時刻,我們應當憶念咒語。
The mantra that is the fully realized buddha,
成就圓滿的佛陀的咒語,
Supreme among two-legged beings, the Lion of the Śākyas and best of men. {50.12}
兩足眾生中最殊勝者,釋迦獅子與最勝的人。
“He taught the mantras
他傳授了咒語
Of the uṣṇīṣa s and so forth, including the Locanā ;
肉髻等的咒語,包括眼光母;
The mantras of the teachers of the three worlds‍—
三界導師的咒語——
Cakravartin , Tejorāśi, and Jayoṣṇīṣa ‍— {50.13}
轉輪王、光蘊肉髻佛、勝肉髻佛——{50.13}
“And also of Vijayoṣṇīṣa and the rest;
「以及殊勝肉髻佛等的咒語;」
Of Padmapāṇi, Lokita,
蓮花手菩薩、光世音的
Avalokiteśvara, Bhṛkuṭī,
觀世音菩薩、皺眉母,
Tārā, and Yaśasvinī; {50.14}

“And also [the mantras of] the goddesses
「還有這些女神的咒語
Sitavāsinī, Mahāśvetā, and Yaśovatī;
白衣母、大白女神和名聞女;
The vidyā Bhogavatī;
寶城明咒;
And Hayagrīva, the king of mantras. {50.15}

“These are the main mantras

In the Lotus family that emerged from the victorious ones.

The cakravartin One Syllable

Is the mighty lord of [all these] mantras. {50.16}

“If one remembers the god of gods,

The splendorous lord of mantras
光輝燦爛的真言主
By the name of Yamāntaka,
以閻曼德迦之名,
One will have no anger. {50.17}

“[The mantra of] Avalokiteśvara
「觀世音菩薩的咒語
Gives rise to compassionate thoughts
生起慈悲的念頭
And overwhelms the mind with great compassion.
並且用大慈悲充滿心靈。
[The mantra of] Tārā, revealed by the former buddhas {50.18}
度母的咒語,由過去的諸佛所顯現。
“And spoken by Avalokiteśvara,
「並由觀世音菩薩所宣說,
Delivers sentient beings [from suffering].
解救有情眾生[脫離苦難]。
This noble vidyā is generated during samādhi
這部殊勝的明咒是在三昧中生起的。
And designated as woman in name and form. {50.19}
並被指定為名相上的女性。{50.19}
“Consequently, the bodhisattva conducts himself
因此,菩薩進行菩薩行
As [Tārā], the supreme ‘companion in awakening,’

In thousands of world spheres,
在數千個世界中,
Too many to be counted. {50.20}
多得無法計算。{50.20}
“Synchronically, the goddess [herself] sojourns widely,

Bringing welfare to embodied beings

In her form of a woman

With the nature of the mantra. {50.21}

“At that time, she establishes beings who need guidance

On the path to awakening,

Manifesting the inconceivable

Conduct of the bodhisattvas. {50.22}

“One should also keep in mind Vajrapāṇi,

The valiant lord of mantras,
勇敢的真言主,
And Māmakī who upholds her family‍—
以及摩摩枳佛母,她守護著自己的眷屬——
The goddess worshiped by the three worlds‍— {50.23}
三界所禮敬的女神——
“And also [the dūtīs] Śṛṅkhalā,

Mekhalā, Vajramuṣṭī, and Yaśasvinī;

[The krodhas] Krodhendra, Tilaka, and Śatru;

[And the vidyārāja s] Nīladaṇḍa and Bhairava. {50.24}

“These are the hosts of dūtīs, [F.273.b] [F.290.b]

The krodhas, and those known as the overseers of vidyā s.

They are all the main deities of the Vajra family ,

And my sentinels. {50.25}

“Also, if one remembers Gajagandha,

The bodhisattva of great power in this world,

Or Mahāsthānagata, the sagacious

Bodhisattva of great power, {50.26}

“Or the greatest, the head of the sons,

The beautiful Samantabhadra,
美妙的普賢菩薩,
At that time

One will be free from fear. {50.27}

“Similarly, if one continually recollects
「同樣地,如果有人不斷地憶念
Māṇibhadra, or the supreme yakṣa Jambhala,
寶賢夜叉或至高的夜叉俱攞婆羅,
Or any śrāvaka, pratyeka­buddha, or buddha,
或任何聲聞、辟支佛或佛陀,
How could one be afraid? {50.28}
怎麼會有恐懼呢?{50.28}
“It is stated that through recollecting
「據說透過憶念」
Or worshiping them one obtains great protection.
或者禮拜他們就能獲得極大的保護。
Great rewards will then be obtained,
然後就能夠得到很大的福報。
[Such as rebirth as] a god of Puṇyābha or Asaṃjñaka. {50.29}
例如重生為布尼亞巴天或無想天的天神。
“As for those who possess the female form,
「至於那些具有女性形體的人,
They should worship the majestic goddess free from passion,
他們應當禮拜莊嚴的離欲女神。
And also the Three Jewels,
還有三寶,
While trusting in the teachings of the Victorious One. {50.30}
同時信任勝者的教法。
“They will not be in any danger then
他們將不會有任何危險。
From either friend or foe.
無論是朋友還是敵人,都不會遭受任何危害。
The relevant samaya, it is said,

Must never be violated by any mantra practitioner. {50.31}

“It is taught in connection with the supreme krodha

And praised [as the samaya] of Yamāntaka himself.

If beings keep this samaya,
如果眾生守持這個三昧耶,
No humans will be eaten.” {50.32}

After that, all the gods and
其後,所有的天神和
Nonhuman beings were delighted.
非人類的眾生歡喜雀躍。
Realizing the bodhisattva mind,
證得菩薩心。
They were all established in the samaya. {50.33}
他們都已安住在三昧耶中。{50.33}
The yakṣa general was angry
夜叉將軍感到憤怒
And expressed his contempt.
並表示了他的輕蔑。
Then, shaking all the innumerable
然後,震動了無數的
World spheres, [he exclaimed,] {50.34}

“What is the use of this instruction?
「這個教法有什麼用呢?
There is no need for Lord of Wrath ;
忿怒主尊沒有必要。
Up to now the sons of the victorious ones
直到現在,勝者的諸子
Guided sentient beings! {50.35}
被引導的有情眾生!
“The power of Lord of Wrath
「忿怒主尊的力量
Was dispensed with long ago!”
早就被捨棄了!
Having said this, the vajra holder
說完這些話,金剛杵的持有者
Threw his vajra scepter down and waited. {50.36}
拋下金剛杵後等待。
Mañjughoṣa, the divine youth
妙音童子
In the form of a male child,
以男童的形象,
Powerful and intelligent,
強大而聰慧,
Laughed and gave this reply: {50.37}
笑著給了這個回答:{50.37}
“Do not be upset, O great yakṣa ,
「不要生氣,偉大的夜叉啊,
Powerful Vajrapāṇi!
強大的金剛手菩薩!
Although the [deity] taught by me
雖然我所教授的本尊
Is Lord of Wrath of great power, {50.38} [F.274.a] [F.291.a]
是具大力量的忿怒主尊。
“It is your own mantra that I am going to reveal.
「我將要揭露的是你自己的咒語。
You may disseminate it as you like,
你可以隨意傳揚它。
[But] it is not possible for you to proclaim
但是你不能夠宣傳它
The power of [Lord of] Wrath. {50.39}
憤怒主的力量。{50.39}
“If you ask why, it is because
「如果你問為什麼,那是因為
He is identical with you
他與你是同一體。
And is seen present here in [your own] body,
並在你自己的身體中顯現。
Summoned there for you as your heart essence. {50.40}
為你而被召喚,作為你的心要精髓。{50.40}
“With Lord of Wrath immerged in you,
「忿怒主尊沉浸在你之中,
It is not possible to reverse it at this stage.
在這個階段是不可能逆轉的。
Once you have departed, permitted to do so,
一旦你已經離開,並且被許可這樣做,
You may teach your own samaya the way you like. {50.41}

“If one is unwashed, sleepy,

Engaged in the dharma of commoners,

Anointed with oil and not protected,

And always having bad thoughts; {50.42}
並且心中常懷惡念;{50.42}
“If one has given up all the excellent mantras,
「如果一個人放棄了所有殊勝的咒語,
Has no faith in the teachings,
對教法沒有信心,
And consequently harbors doubts,
因此心中懷有疑惑,
Is intolerant toward those without faith, {50.43}
對沒有信心的人不寬容,{50.43}
“Rejects the jewel of the sacred Dharma,
「背棄了神聖法寶,
Repudiates the saṅgha, and is distracted,
否定僧伽,心意散亂,
Naked, always unclean
赤身露體,常處不潔
And limited to unclean pursuits, {50.44}
只限於不潔淨的行為,{50.44}
“Not discreet, not practicing the mantra,
「不謹慎,不修行咒語,
Always impure, and devoid of compassion;
時常不淨,缺乏慈悲;
If one has a penchant for having sex
若有貪著於淫欲
In the vicinity of temples and caityas {50.45}
在寺廟和塔的附近
“Or in the courtyard of a monastery,
或是在寺院的庭院裡,
[Lord of] Wrath will destroy one.
忿怒主會摧毀那個人。
Those who have broken their samaya, have no faith,
那些破戒三昧耶、沒有信心的人,
Do not know how to use the mantras, {50.46}
不懂得如何使用咒語
“Or stumble in their conduct somewhat‍—
「或在行為上有所跌倒—
[Lord of] Wrath will bring their ruin.
忿怒主會帶來他們的毀滅。
It is not possible to find in this human world
在這個人間世界中,是找不到的
Anyone that is not careless. {50.47}
任何不粗心大意的人。{50.47}
“Women intoxicated with passion,
「沉溺於貪欲的女性,
Tarnished by breaking their samayas,
被破壞三昧耶所玷污,
Are killed by Lord of Wrath ,
被忿怒主尊所殺害。
Along with the negligent practitioners of mantra. {50.48}
一起隨著懈怠的咒語修行者。{50.48}
“All immature beings everywhere
一切尚未成熟的眾生,無處不在
Fall under the sway of others if they are careless.
如果他們不夠謹慎,就會被他人所控制。
Except for the pratyeka­buddhas, the arhats, and the śrāvakas
除了緣覺佛、阿羅漢和聲聞之外
Who have extinguished their passions forever, {50.49}
已經永遠熄滅了他們的煩惱的人。
“All of them will be killed by Lord of Wrath
「他們都將被忿怒主尊所殺害
And punished in every respect.”
並在各方面受到懲罰。
Being thus told by Mañjuśrī, with his mind filled with compassion,
文殊師利這樣告訴眾生,他的心充滿了慈悲。
The beings [in the assembly exclaimed,] {50.50}
集會中的眾生[叫喊著說,]
“Inconceivable are the acts of the buddhas
「諸佛的行為是不可思議的
And the bodhisattvas of great power!”
以及具有大力量的菩薩!
Having said this,
說完這話之後,
They all remained silent. {50.51} [F.274.b] [F.291.b]

The glorious Vajradhara then
榮耀的金剛薩埵隨後
Took up his vajra scepter once again.
又重新拿起了金剛杵。
Holding it, he rejoiced.

Permitted [to do so], he spoke again. {50.52}

50.53This concludes the detailed chapter describing Lord of Wrath Yamāntaka, the greatness of his mantra and the attendant rules, fiftieth in “The Root Manual of Noble Mañjuśrī,” an extensive Mahāyāna sūtra that forms a garland-like basket of bodhisattva teachings.
