35.1At that time the blessed Śākyamuni again directed his gaze at the realm of the Pure Abode [F.245.a] [F.262.a] and entered the samādhi called that which animates the great receptacle of mudrās of the tathāgatas . As soon as he entered this samādhi, a great light issued from the tuft of hair between his eyebrows. This mass of light, surrounded by innumerable billions of light rays, illuminated many buddhafields, arousing all the buddhas [dwelling there], and entered back into Lord Śākyamuni’s tuft of hair. {35.1}
35.1此時,佛陀釋迦牟尼再次將目光投向淨居天領域,進入了一個名為「激活如來手印偉大容器」的三昧。一旦他進入了這個三昋,一道巨大的光芒從他兩眉之間的髮髻發出。這團光芒被無數億條光線所包圍,照亮了許多佛土,喚醒了所有住在那裡的諸佛,然後又返回到釋迦牟尼佛的髮髻中。
35.2As soon as they were roused, all the blessed buddhas entered the samādhi of the nature of the sky and positioned themselves in the sky above the Pure Abode. Having greeted all of them reverentially, the blessed Śākyamuni spoke to Mañjuśrī, the divine youth, as follows:
35.2諸位福德圓滿的佛陀一旦被喚醒,就進入了虛空本性的三昧,並且在淨居天上空安住下來。福德圓滿的釋迦牟尼恭敬地向他們所有人行禮致敬後,就對妙吉祥天童文殊師利這樣說道:
“Listen, Mañjuśrī, about the procedures pertaining to the receptacle of mudrās, blessed by all the buddhas to come.” {35.2}

35.3Mañjuśrī, the divine youth, prostrated to the feet of the Blessed One, bowed to all the buddhas, and spoke to blessed Tathāgata Śākyamuni as follows: {35.3}
35.3妙吉祥天童對世尊的雙足頂禮,向所有諸佛行禮,並向釋迦牟尼如來開口說道:
35.4“Very good, O Blessed One! Please teach, if you think that the time is right, the most secret chapter on the receptacle of the mudrās of all the tathāgatas. This will be for the benefit and happiness of many people. Teach it out of kindness for the world, for the welfare and happiness of great numbers of people. This will create happiness and the ripening [of the causes of] happiness for gods, men, and all beings.” {35.4}
35.4「甚善,世尊!若時機適當,願您教授諸如來手印容器的最秘密章節。這將為眾多人帶來利益和幸福。請以慈悲心為世間說法,為眾多人的福祉和幸福而開示。這將為天、人及一切有情帶來幸福,及幸福之因的成熟。」{35.4}
35.5Being thus supplicated by Blessed Mañjuśrī, the divine youth, the blessed Śākyamuni began to teach, gazing at all the buddhas, directing his attention to all the beings, gladdening all the bodhisattvas, perfectly calming [F.245.b] [F.262.b] all the pratyekabuddhas and noble śrāvakas, animating all those whose minds were occupied with the meaning of their respective mantras, keeping all the evil beings at bay, restoring confidence in all the frightened ones, and establishing in the ease of the auspicious nirvāṇa all those that were in difficult predicaments. For the happiness of all suffering beings, he taught the procedures from the chapter on the mudrās as follows: {35.5}
35.5世尊釋迦牟尼被妙吉祥天童文殊師利如此祈請後,開始說法。他注視著諸佛,將注意力轉向所有眾生,令諸菩薩歡喜,使緣覺佛和聲聞得到完全的寧靜,激勵所有心中專注於各自咒語義理的修行者,驅除所有惡道眾生,恢復所有恐懼者的信心,並將陷入困境的眾生安置在吉祥涅槃的安樂中。為了使所有受苦眾生得到幸福,他傳授了手印章節的修習方法,內容如下:
“Listen, Mañjuśrī, divine youth,「文殊師利天童啊,你要聽著,

“The one-pointed lance is the twenty-second,一尖矛為第二十二,
And the two-pointed lance, the twenty-third.而雙尖槍為第二十三。
The twenty-fourth mudrā is the rosary,第二十四個手印是念珠。
And the twenty-fifth, the bow. {35.13}第二十五個是弓。{35.13}
“The twenty-sixth is designated as第二十六個被指定為
And the twenty-seventh第二十七
Is called the even-pointed lance. {35.14}稱為偶尖矛。{35.14}
“The twenty-eighth is the spear ( śūla ),「第二十八是三股矛(śūla),
And the twenty-ninth, the hammer.第二十九是錘。
The thirtieth is the hatchet,第三十是斧頭,

The thirty-eighth is the cross-legged posture,第三十八是跏趺坐。

“What they name as the fortieth「第四十個
Is the Dharma conch.就是法螺貝。
The chain is proclaimed該鎖鏈被宣說
To be the forty-first. {35.18}是第四十一個。
“The forty-second is called the highly esteemed,「第四十二個稱為最尊貴的,
And the forty-third, the fulfilled wish.第四十三,為圓滿所願。
The forty-fourth is regarded as第四十四被視為
The mother Prajñāpāramitā . {35.19}般若波羅蜜多母。
“The perfect buddhas, best of two-legged beings,完美的諸佛,兩足眾生中最殊勝者,
Call the forty-fifth the bowl.第四十五稱為缽。
The forty-sixth is called the archway,第四十六個稱為拱門,
And the forty-seventh, the fine archway. {35.20}第四十七是殊勝的門廊。
“The forty-eighth is known as the voice,「第四十八者名為聲音,」
And the forty-ninth, the sound of recitation.第四十九是誦持的聲音。
The fiftieth is the drum,第五十個是鼓。
And the next after that, the Dharma drum. {35.21}再次之後的是法鼓。
“The fifty-second is the elephant,「第五十二是象,
And the fifty-third, the supreme hand.第五十三是至高的手印。
The fifty-fourth mudrā should be known as第五十四個手印應該被認識為
The movement in the direction of that. {35.22}那個方向上的動作。
“The fifty-fifth is called the comet,「第五十五個被稱為彗星,
The fifty-sixth, the bow and arrow,第五十六個手印,名為弓箭。

“The sixty-first is the padma,「第六十一個是蓮花,
And the sixty-second, the vajra.第六十二是金剛杵。

“The sixty-fourth should be known,第六十四個應當認識。
Briefly, as the water lily (puṇḍarīka).簡言之,如同白蓮花。

As the supreme boon-granting mudrā. {35.26}為最高的賜福手印。{35.26}
“The sixty-sixth is called「第六十六個被稱為
By the buddhas the rope.諸佛以繩索。
The knowledgeable call智慧者稱之為
The sixty-seventh the spear ( kunta ). {35.27}第六十七是矛(昆多)。{35.27}
“The sixty-eighth is designated「第六十八被指定為」
As the vajra staff,金剛杵狀的法器,
And the sixty-ninth is known as第六十九個被稱為
The killer of hundreds. {35.28}殺百者。
“The next mudrā, the seventieth,「接下來的手印,第七十個,」
One should know, briefly, as the boat.應該簡要地知道它如同船一樣。
The seventy-first, the excellent, auspicious mudrā,第七十一個最殊勝、吉祥的手印,

“The seventy-ninth is the drinking water「第七十九個手印是飲水
And the eightieth is the foe destroyer.第八十個是摧伏怨敵的手印。
The eighty-first is known as the lamp第八十一個被稱為燈光。
And the eighty-second is designated as the joined palms. {35.33}第八十二是合掌。{35.33}
“The eighty-third is called the garland「第八十三個是稱為花鬘。
And the eighty-fourth the seat.第八十四是座位。
The eighty-fifth is taught as the place,第八十五是講說為場所,
And the eighty-sixth is the consecration .第八十六是灌聖。
The eighty-seventh is called the initiation ,第八十七稱為灌頂。
And the eighty-eighth is designated as the supreme. {35.34}第八十八是被指定為最高的。{35.34}
“The mudrās that are counted as the eighty-ninth「第八十九種手印被計算為
And the ninetieth are both supremely auspicious;第九十個則都是最為吉祥的;
They are the hollow space and the couple,它們是空性和對偶。
Which brings the count to ninety. {35.35}這樣計數就達到了九十。
“The ninety-first mudrā「第九十一手印
Is called the flower,名為蓮花,

“The mudrā that completes the count of one hundred圓滿百數的手印
Is the suitable for all rites .是適合所有儀軌的。
As for the mudrās beyond these one hundred,至於超過這一百個手印之外的手印,
They are known as ‘great’ mudrās. {35.38}它們被稱為「大」手印。{35.38}
“Among the uṣṇīṣa lords of the world,「在世間的肉髻主之中,
The most senior is always Cakravartin .最高位的始終是轉輪王。

“Among all the worldly mudrās and mantras,在所有世間的手印和咒語當中,
The boon-granting has the greatest power;賜予恩澤的具有最大的力量;
It is the most exalted and excellent這是最殊勝和最卓越的
And worshiped throughout the triple universe. {35.43}並在三界中被普遍恭敬禮拜。{35.43}
“Designated as the 108th,「稱為第一百零八個,
This mudrā is the birthplace of the triple universe.這個手印是三界的根源之地。
Among the mudrās enumerated in this tantra,在此密續中所列舉的手印當中,

“The count assigned to the mudrās「分配給手印的數量
Is thus one hundred and eight.因此是一百零八個。
This number was formerly taught in song這個數字從前曾在歌唱中被教導
By the perfect buddhas on the earth.由圓滿的諸佛在人間所說。
When the teachings of the Teacher have disappeared,當導師的教法消失之時,
These one hundred and eight mudrās will be circulated among the living. {35.45}這一百零八個手印將在眾生中流傳。{35.45}
“Starting again at the beginning,「從頭開始,
With the [fingers of] both hands joined at the tips,以雙手的手指尖相接合,
One should cross over the opposite fingers應當將相反的手指交叉在一起
And keep them interlaced.並將它們交叉相扣。
The two hands [thus] joined兩手如此合掌
Have the shape of five crests. {35.46}呈現五個峰頂的形狀。{35.46}
“When the tips of the fingers are thus「當指尖這樣
In reverse positions,在相反的位置上,
That mudrā should be known as the five-crested該手印應當被認識為五冠手印

“To form the single-crested mudrā,「要結成單峰手印,
One should join the hands as before,應當如前所述般雙手合十,
With the middle fingers touching along their sides;中間的手指沿著兩側相接觸;
This is definitely the single-crested.這確實是單頂手印。
This mudrā is a ‘great’ mudrā這個手印是一個「大」手印
Taught by the fully realized buddhas. {35.55}由圓滿成就的諸佛所教導。
“The mantras associated with Mañjuśrī,「與文殊師利相關的咒語,
As well as the others associated with the world,以及與世間相關的其他咒語,
Will be mastered when combined with this mudrā,與此手印相合時,將會被掌握。
And swiftly accomplish all activities. {35.56}迅速成就一切事業。{35.56}
“Likewise, the supreme mantras taught by the victorious ones「同樣地,勝者所傳授的最高咒語
Will be accomplished when used in combination with it.與它結合使用時將會成就。
Performing the rite according to procedure,按照儀軌程序進行修持,
One will swiftly accomplish one’s aims. {35.57}人將迅速成就自己的目標。{35.57}
“With the hands joined together as before,「雙手合掌如前,
The fingertips ‘piled up,’手指尖端堆疊在一起,
And the two index fingers bent in,兩根食指彎向內側,
One should form a shape resembling the añjali . {35.58}應當形成一個像合掌那樣的姿態。{35.58}
“When the two thumbs are then crossed over,「兩手大拇指交叉在上時,

Every rite that is sanctioned for the five-crested,凡是為五冠者所認可的儀軌,
Can also be accomplished with this mudrā. {35.60}也可以用這個手印來成就。
“Any rite performed with the utpala任何用優鉢羅執行的儀軌
Will bring swift success.將會帶來迅速的成就。
This mudrā grants the boons這個手印能夠賜予福報
And swiftly brings enjoyments.迅速帶來福報。
When combined with the root mantra,當與根本咒結合時,
It will swiftly accomplish one’s aims. {35.61}它將迅速成就一切所願。{35.61}
“Similarly, one should join the hands,「同樣地,應當合掌,」
Stretching them upward將雙手向上伸展
And forming a hollow space in between並在中間形成一個空心的空間
With the fingers surrounding it.用手指環繞著它。
One should then form the auspicious symbol接著應該形成吉祥的卍字
That has the shape of a swastika: {35.62}形狀如卍字的吉祥符號:{35.62}
“One should keep the little fingers應當保持小指
On the level with the middle [joints] of the middle fingers,在中指的中間關節的位置,
And the thumbs crossed over—兩個大拇指交叉相疊——

“This mudrā can accomplish every purpose,「此手印能成就一切事業,

In the knowledge of destinies as the complete. {35.65}在命運的智慧中圓滿成就。{35.65}
“When the palms are joined to form an open flower bud當雙手掌心相合,形成綻放的花蕾時
With the fingers kept apart in a circle,手指分開排成圓形,
This mudrā has been specified by the perfect buddhas這個手印已被圓滿的諸佛所開示。
To the reciters as the complete. {35.66}對於念誦者而言是完整的。{35.66}
“It pacifies every calamity of those「它能平息那些人的一切災厄
Suffering from poverty or other afflictions.遭受貧困或其他苦難的眾生。
It swiftly brings prosperity它能迅速帶來繁榮
When activated by the root mantra. {35.67}當由根本咒啟動時。{35.67}
“Those with excellent conduct and knowledge of the world那些品德高尚且了解世間的人
Also taught another mudrā:還教授另一個手印:
One should hold both hands as before,應當如前面所說的方式握持雙手,
With the left index finger touching [the right hand]. {35.68}左食指接觸右手。{35.68}
“Putting the right hand into position,將右手放入位置,
One should bend its fingers應當彎曲其手指
And extend the index and the middle fingers.伸展食指和中指。

“It pacifies all the terrible它平息所有的可怕的
And very frightening vighnas.以及非常可怕的障礙。
It has been recommended to the reciters這已被推薦給持誦者。
As the means of destroying all evil beings.作為摧毀一切惡業眾生的方便。

“It brings all beings onto「它把所有眾生帶上
The mantra path of the reciters;誦持者的咒語之道;
Having resorted to this supreme vehicle,已經依止了這個至高無上的乘。
They travel the path to buddhahood. {35.232}他們踏上通往佛果的道路。{35.232}
“One should shake the hands loose,「應當鬆開雙手,」

“Using both hands again,「再用雙手,
One should enclose the right thumb in a fist.應該用拳頭把右拇指封住。
The fist should be formed應該形成拳印
With all the fingers of the left hand用左手的所有手指
Evenly aligned and bent at the tip,整齊排列,指尖彎曲,

Is known throughout the three worlds在三界中為人所知

“When the hands are slightly lowered,「當雙手輕輕下降時,

“Using both hands again,「再用雙手,
One should join them in the añjali gesture應該用合掌來結合它們
And extend sideways the small and the ring fingers and the thumb;將小指、無名指和大拇指向兩側伸展;

With the right hand in front, the mudrā of fearlessness.右手在前,做無畏手印。

As for the second, the mental offering,至於第二種,即是心意祭禮,
One can offer any type of flowers. {35.266}可以祭禮任何種類的花朵。{35.266}
“This worship procedure was taught「這個祭禮程序被教導過
By the fully realized buddhas, supreme among two-legged beings.這是由圓滿成就的佛陀所教導的,他們是兩足眾生中最崇高的。
The worship may be of two kinds,禮拜可以分為兩種。
[Either with or] without the flowers. {35.267}無論有花或無花皆可。
“To make all the mantras fully effective in all rites,「為了使所有咒語在所有儀軌中都完全有效,
One should employ this mudrā— [F.256.b] [F.273.b]應當採用這個手印——
The suitable for all rites —適合所有儀軌——
Taught by the fully realized buddhas. {35.268}由諸佛陀所傳授。
“[It can be used] when sitting,「[可用於]坐著時,
Lying down, bathing, drinking, eating,躺著、洗澡、飲水、進食,
Decorating, lighting lamps, reciting mantras,裝飾、點燈、誦咒語,

“It activates the bond with all the mantra[-deities],它啟動與所有咒語[本尊]的聯繫,

“The first one hundred mudrās have now been taught,「現在已經傳授了最初的一百個手印,」

Now I will teach the eight mudrās現在我將教導八個手印

“One should use both hands,「應當用兩隻手,
Starting from the same position.從同樣的位置開始。

“One should cup the hands,「應當合掌,
Joining them together in an añjali gesture,將雙手合掌。

The fully realized buddhas call this excellent mudrā諸佛陀稱此為殊勝的手印
The abode of the Thirty[-Three]. {35.288}三十三天的住處。
“These [last] eight mudrās, designated as「這最後的八個手印,被稱為
‘Great’ mudrās, are suitable for peaceful rites.被稱為「大」手印的這八個手印,適合用於寂靜的儀軌。
Taught by the fully realized buddhas,由圓滿實現的諸佛所開示的。

“The spontaneously arisen「無生而現起的
Eminent sages of the past,過去的傑出聖人,
Who are beyond counting,無法計數的。
Taught sixty quadrillions and eighty mudrās.傳授了六十兆八十個手印。

Were given for 108 mudrās. {35.290}為一百零八個手印而傳授。{35.290}
“With all of them available,「具足一切,」
One can accomplish all the mantra-rites;一個人可以成就一切咒語儀軌。
One will accomplish the rites將能圓滿成就儀軌
Of all the mantra [deities]. {35.291}一切咒語[本尊]的。{35.291}
“These one hundred [and eight] mudrās were taught「這一百零八個手印都已傳授
By all the buddhas of great power.由一切具大力的佛陀所傳授。
If employed according to procedure,若按照儀軌而修行,
They will swiftly accomplish all aims.” {35.292}它們將迅速成就一切目標。
Having thus spoken, the most eminent of sages,說完了這些話,最尊貴的聖人,
The Lion of the Śākyas, supreme among men,釋迦獅子,人中至尊,
Then specifically addressed Mañjughoṣa,隨後專門對妙音菩薩說道,
The bodhisattva of great power: {35.293} [F.257.b] [F.274.b]大威力的菩薩:
“This collection of the different sets of mudrās「此結集各種手印的集合

Was handed down by yourself, Mañjuśrī,是由你文殊師利親自傳下來的,
To protect [the Buddha’s] instructions on earth為了保護佛陀在人間的教法
At the time when the final period has arrived當最後的時期降臨之時
And I have departed into nirvāṇa. {35.294}我已經進入了涅槃。
“I have now taught all of it「我現在已經教導了一切
In order to protect my doctrine—為了保護我的教法——
I taught the defining characteristics我教說了分別的特徵
Of the mudrās and the mantras at length.手印和咒語的詳細內容。
This esoteric and secret lore這個密秘的隱祕法門

If they apply themselves to the cause如果他們致力於因。

Thus addressed, the divine youth Mañjuśrī,文殊師利童子聽到這樣的稱讚,
Bowed his head to the perfect Buddha,向圓滿的佛陀低頭禮敬。
The sun-like lord of the world. {35.299}世間如日輪的主宰。

He moved close to the Buddha他靠近佛陀

“When the mantra basket [of teachings]「當咒語的寶藏
Has disappeared in the world and on earth,在世間和地上消失了,
How will beings be able to ensure眾生如何才能確保
An auspicious course of rebirth?” {35.301}一個吉祥的輪迴之道?」{35.301}
Being thus asked, the perfect buddha佛陀這樣問妙音:
Spoke to Mañjughoṣa as follows:向妙音如是宣說:
“Listen, dear Mañjuśrī, divine youth,「諦聽,親愛的文殊師利童子,
If you are asking.如果你在詢問。
When I have passed from this world into final nirvāṇa當我離開這個世界,進入般涅槃時
And the earth is devoid of a buddha,而大地上沒有佛陀,
When the basket of the Dharma has disappeared當佛法的教法已經消失了
And [all] the śrāvakas have long ago entered nirvāṇa, {35.302}而所有的聲聞早已進入涅槃,
“At that time, [beings] should make那時,[眾生]應當製作
An image of the Teacher, best of two-legged beings,導師的形象,雙足眾生中最殊勝的。
And offer to it, respectfully,並恭敬地向它供養,
Incense, fragrances, scented oils, {35.303}香、香氣、香油,
“Different types of high-quality clothes,「各種上等的布,
And other things, such as jeweled earrings, adornments,以及其他物品,例如珠寶耳環、裝飾品,
And sacrificial food consisting of祭祀食物,包括
Different types of solid and liquid articles各種固態與液態的物品

The sagacious bodhisattva of great power智慧殊勝的大力菩薩
Remained very joyful afterward. {35.306}之後仍然保持非常歡喜的心境。
All that was taught in former times過去所教導的一切
Was now set to continue above the realm of the Pure Abode.現在被設定為在淨居天之上持續進行。
The Buddha, turner of the wheel of Dharma,佛陀轉法輪者
Turned, in the presence of the buddhas,在諸佛的見證下,轉動了咒語之輪。
The wheel of the mantra [path],咒語的法輪,
Letting it roll for a long time. {35.307}讓它旋轉很長一段時間。
35.308This concludes the detailed chapter on mudrā procedures, thirty-fifth in “The Root Manual of Noble Mañjuśrī,” an extensive Mahāyāna sūtra that forms a garland-like basket of bodhisattva teachings.
