The Entrustment of the Samādhi
三摩地的付囑
18.1The Bhagavān said to the youth Candraprabha, “Young man, in that way know that there are four beneficial qualities possessed by bodhisattva mahāsattvas who obtain this samādhi, understand it, preserve it, recite it to others, promote it, proclaim it, chant it, and make it widely known to others.
18.1薄伽梵對月光童子說："童子，應當知道，菩薩摩訶薩若能獲得此三摩地，理解它、受持它、為他人誦說它、推廣它、宣揚它、唱誦它，並使其廣為人知，就會具備四種功德。
18.2“What are those four beneficial qualities? They will be unsurpassable in merit, they will be undefeatable by opponents, they will have unlimited wisdom, and they will have unending confidence of speech.
18.2「那四種功德是什麼呢？他們將具有無上的福德，他們將不被敵手所克服，他們將擁有無量的慧，他們將擁有無盡的言語信心。」
18.3Young man, you should know that bodhisattva mahāsattvas [F.65.a] who obtain this samādhi, study it, keep it, read it out loud, disseminate it, teach it, chant it, and make it widely known to others will possess these four beneficial qualities.”
18.3年輕人，你應當知道，獲得這個三摩地、學習它、保持它、大聲誦讀它、傳播它、教導它、誦唱它，並將它廣為人知的菩薩摩訶薩將會具有這四種功德。
The Bhagavān then recited these verses:
薄伽梵隨後誦出以下偈頌：
“Throughout time they will be
永遠具足無與倫比的福德
Unsurpassable in merit
無上福德
Through attaining this samādhi of peace.
通過證得這個寂靜的三摩地。
That is the range of activity of all the buddhas. {1}
這就是一切佛陀的活動範圍。{1}
“Throughout time these heroes
「歷劫以來這些英雄
Will be protected by merit,
將獲得福德的保護，
Practicing supreme, pure,
修習至高無上、清淨的菩薩行。
Unique bodhisattva conduct. {2}
獨特的菩薩行。{2}
“There will be no adversary
「將沒有任何敵手
Whatsoever who can harm them.
不會有任何人能傷害他們。
They will, throughout time,
他們將於一切時間中，
Be in the care of the buddhas. {3}
始終受到佛陀的照護。{3}
“Throughout time their wisdom
「他們的慧將貫徹時間
Will be immeasurable.
將是無量的。
Their confidence will be eternal
他們的信心將是永恆的
Through their possessing this state of peace. {4}
通過他們擁有這種寂靜的境界。{4}
“They will have an eternally unsurpassable accumulation of merit.
「他們將具有永遠無法超越的福德積聚。
They will have most excellent bodhisattva conduct.
他們將具有最殊勝的菩薩行。
They will not be attacked by adversaries,
他們將不會遭受敵手的攻擊，
Having come into possession of this samādhi of supreme peace. {5}
獲得了這個至高寧靜的三摩地。
“They will have vast and sharp wisdom
他們將具備廣大而銳利的慧。
And thus will have eternal confidence and pure sight.
因而將會具有永恆的信心和清淨的見解。
Those wise ones will always have
那些智慧的人將永遠擁有
The power of memory and the power of retention. {6}
記憶的力量與陀羅尼的力量。{6}
“The meaningful words that they teach
「他們所教導的有意義的言語
Will be most beautiful to the minds of the wise.
將會對有慧的心最為美妙。
Many beings with wisdom will know
許多具有慧的生命將會了知
This supreme peaceful samādhi that is taught. {7}
這個至高無上的寂靜三摩地就是所傳授的法。{7}
“They will obtain perfect, excellent Dharma robes,
「他們將獲得圓滿、殊勝的法衣，
Bedding, invitations, and hard and soft food.
臥具、邀請，以及粗食和細食。
The ones who possess this supreme samādhi of peace
具備這個最高的平和三摩地的人們
Will be very youthful and handsome. {8}
將會非常年輕英俊。{8}
“They will see many buddhas, lords of worlds,
他們將看到許多佛陀，世界的主宰，
And make unequaled offerings to those guides.
並向那些導師作出無等的供養。
In seeking this supreme samādhi of peace
在追求這個最高的寧靜三摩地
They will encounter no impediment. {9}

“They will be in the presence of the lords of worlds
他們將親臨各個世界的統治者面前
And made happy by hundreds of beautiful verses. [F.65.b]
並且被數百首優美的偈頌所令歡喜。
Having gained this supreme samādhi of peace
獲得了這至高的寧靜三摩地
They will never experience decline. {10}
他們永遠不會經歷衰退。{10}
“A Lord of the World will be present before them
「一位世界之主將會出現在他們面前」
With the beautiful primary and secondary signs of the body.
具有美妙的三十二相八十種好。
Having gained this supreme samādhi of peace
獲得了這個最殊勝的寂靜三摩地
There will be no decline in their wisdom. {11}
他們的慧沒有衰退。{11}
“They will never be disheartened.
他們永遠不會氣餒。
They will always be wealthy and never poor.
他們將永遠富有，不會貧窮。
Having gained this supreme samādhi of peace
獲得了這個至高無上的寂靜三摩地
There will be no attachment in their mind. {12}

“They will never have an unfavorable existence.
他們永遠不會有不利的有。
They will be world rulers, cakravartin kings.
他們將成為世界的統治者，轉輪王。
Having gained this supreme samādhi of peace
證得這個殊勝的寧靜三摩地
Their kingdoms will always be happy. {13}
他們的王國將永遠幸福安樂。{13}
“They will have vast wisdom free of uncertainty
他們將具有廣大的慧，遠離懷疑。
Through unceasing teachings for hundreds of eons.
通過無間斷的教導，經歷了數百個劫。
Having heard this samādhi, this level of peace,
聽聞了這個三摩地，這種寧靜的境界，
Constant, they will follow whatever has been taught. {14}
恆常地，他們將遵循所教導的一切。{14}
“Though one were to describe the benefits of the ten strengths
「雖然有人述說十力的利益
Throughout countless, endless millions of eons,
在無數無盡的百萬劫中，
One would not have spoken of even a fraction of them.
都還沒有說過其中的一小部分。
It would be like taking a drop of water from the ocean.” {15}
就像從海洋中取出一滴水一樣。
At that time the young man, with great joy,
那時這位年輕人，懷著大喜，
Stood up and paid homage with his palms together.
站起身來，雙掌合十向具有十力者頂禮。
Joyfully standing before the one with the ten strengths
歡喜地站在具有十力者的面前
He uttered these inspired words: {16}
他說出了這些啟發人心的言語：{16}
“Inconceivable great hero,
「不可思議的大英雄，
Lord of the World, illuminator,
世界之主，照耀者，
These benefits have been taught to me
這些利益已被我所教導
By you, the Lord of humans. {17}
由你這位人類的主宰。{17}
“Compassionate one who wishes to bring benefit,
「具有慈悲心、想要帶來利益的聖者啊，
Great hero, pray tell me,
大英雄，請您告訴我，
Who, in the future,
未來誰會
Will listen to this samādhi?” {18}
誰將來會聽聞這個三摩地？」{18}
The one with a voice like the avadavat’s song,
那位聲音如鶇鳥鳴唱般的。
The Teacher who had taught this to him,
教導他這個三摩地的師。
The Bhagavān, who had unimpeded wisdom,
薄伽梵具有無礙的慧，
Answered him with these words: {19}
用言語回答他：{19}
“Listen, young man, and I will explain
「你聽著，年輕人，我將為你解說
That which is the highest practice.
這是最高的修習。
Those who follow the Dharma
遵循法的人們
Will be the ones who listens to this sūtra. {20}
將會是那些聽聞此經的人。{20}
“They will make offerings to the lords of humans;
他們將向人類之主進行供養；
They will seek the wisdom of buddhahood.
他們將尋求佛果的慧。
Developing a loving mind,
培養慈悲心，
They will listen to this sūtra. {21} [F.66.a]
他們將會聽聞此經。{21} [F.66.a]
“Those who have the qualities of mendicancy
具備乞食行品質的人們
And the qualities of austerity,
以及苦行的品質，
And who maintain this practice,
並且堅持修行此法，
Will be ones who listen to this sūtra. {22}
將會是聽聞這部經的人。{22}
“They will not listen to this sūtra
他們將不會聽聞這部經
When it is in the hands of those whose acts are evil,
當這部經掌握在那些行為惡劣的人手中時，
Nor of those who have lost their correct conduct
也不是那些已經失去正行的人。
Regarding the teaching of the lords of worlds. {23}
關於諸世界之主的教導。{23}
“They will hear it when in the hands
他們將在以下者的手中聽聞它
Of the celibates, the heroes,
那些獨身修行者，英勇的行者，
Those who have a mind free of craving
那些心中沒有貪欲的人
And who have been consecrated by the buddhas. {24}

“In future times they will hear

This sūtra when it is in the hands

Of those who have served the buddhas,

The lords of the world, in the past. {25}

“Those who in previous lifetimes

Have been tīrthikas
曾經是外道
Will experience no joy
將感受不到喜悅
When they hear this sūtra. {26}

“Those who have entered homelessness
那些已經出家的人
In my teaching in order to have a livelihood
在我的教法中為了獲得生計
Will be under the power of gain and honor,
將被利益和名譽的力量所控制，
And they will criticize each other. {27}

“Many bhikṣus with unrestrained senses,
「許多比丘感官不受約束，
Who covet the wives of others,
貪戀他人的妻子，
Who wish for gain and have poor conduct,

Will have no faith in this sūtra. {28}
將不會對這部經產生信心。{28}
“Those who do not intend to attain
那些不打算証得
Merit for buddhahood or to attain dhyāna,
為了佛果或證得禪定而追求福德，
And who maintain the conception of a self,
並且執著於自我的概念，
Will have no faith in this sūtra. {29}
將沒有信心在這部經上。{29}
“In future times there will be those
「未來時代將會有那些人」
Who are intent on the result of worldly dhyānas.
那些專注於世間禪定成果的人。
They will eat the alms food of arhats
他們將享用阿羅漢的供養。
And criticize the enlightenment of buddhahood. {30}
並且批評佛果的菩提。{30}
“One who rejects this sūtra
「拒絕這部經的人
Will have greater bad karma
將會擁有更大的惡業
Than someone who destroys
比毀壞
All the caityas in this Jambudvīpa. {31}
贍部洲所有的塔。{31}
“One who rejects this sūtra
「拒絕此經的人
Will have greater bad karma
會招致更大的惡業
Than someone who kills as many arhats
比殺害同樣數量的阿羅漢
As there are grains of sand in the Ganges. {32}
如同恆河中的沙粒那樣多。{32}
“Who among you has the fortitude
「你們當中誰具有堅定的決心」
To teach this sūtra
為了傳授這部經
In the dreadful future time
在可怕的未來時代
When the Dharma is ruined?” {33}
當法被毀壞時？」{33}
The young man stood up, weeping,
那位年輕人站起身來，哭泣著。
And at that time spoke to the Jina.
那時這位佛陀的心生之子向勝者說道。
This heart-born son of the Buddha
這位佛陀心生的兒子
Roared thus this lion’s roar: {34} [F.66.b]
發出如此獅子吼：{34} [F.66.b]
“In the dreadful time in future
「在未來可怕的時代裡
When the Buddha has passed away,
當佛陀涅槃後，
Without concern for my life or body
不顧惜我的生命和身體
I will spread this sūtra widely. {35}
我將廣泛傳播這部經。{35}
“I will endure
我將承忍
The false talk of fools
愚人的虛妄言論
And, Guide, I will undergo
而且，導師，我將承受
Their abuse and threats. {36}
他們的辱罵和威脅。
“I shall cleanse myself of whatever bad actions
「我會淨化自己所做的一切惡業
I have done in the past
我過去所造的一切惡業
And any maliciousness
以及任何惡意
Toward other bodhisattvas.” {37}

The Buddha, who was the color of gold,
金色的佛陀
Placed his hand upon Candraprabha’s head.

The Tathāgata, who had a gentle voice,

The Teacher, then said to him, {38}

“I give you my blessing.

Young man, in the future

There will be no obstacle to your celibacy

Nor will there be to your life.” {39}

Eight hundred dharmabhāṇakas
八百位法師
Who were present stood up and said,
在場的人站起來說，
“In future times we also
「在未來的時代，我們也
Will be holders of this sūtra.” {40}
將會成為這部經的持有者。」{40}
Eight hundred million
八億
Devas, nāgas, and yakṣas stood up,
天神、龍和夜叉站了起來，
And another six trillion,
還有另外六兆位，
And said to the guide of the world, {41}
對導師說了這樣的話。
“Guide, in future times
「導師，在未來的時代
We will protect
我們將保護
These bhikṣus who
這些比丘們
Stood up today.” {42}

When this sūtra was taught,

Through the blessing of the Teacher,

Buddha realms shook, in numbers
佛剎搖動，數量眾多
Equal to the Ganges sands. {43}

The Lord of the World sent
世界之主發送了
To all those shaken buddha realms

Emanations of the Buddha
佛陀的化身
Who taught the Dharma there. {44}

In each of those realms

Countless millions of beings

Were established in the wisdom of buddhahood
都證得了佛果的慧。
When they had heard that Dharma. {45}

In those buddha realms

Nine hundred million devas

Developed the aspiration to enlightenment

And scattered flowers on the Buddha. {46}

The Lord of men prophesied that

After eight hundred million eons
經過八億劫之後
They would all, within the same eon,

Become guides of the world. {47}

Bhikṣus and bhikṣuṇīs,

Upāsakas and upāsikās— [F.67.a]

Seven hundred and sixty million beings—

All heard this sūtra. {48}

The Lord of humans prophesied

That they would see as many guides of the world

As there are grains of sand in the Ganges

While practicing bodhisattva conduct. {49}

“They will make offerings to them all,

Seeking the wisdom of enlightenment,
尋求菩提的慧，
And here and there they will hear

This unsurpassable sūtra. {50}

“They will make unsurpassable offerings

To Buddha Maitreya.
向彌勒菩薩供養。
They will possess the highest Dharma
他們將擁有最殊勝的法
And they will go to Sukhāvatī. {52}
他們將前往極樂世界。{52}
“There they will make offerings

To the stainless buddha,
向無垢的佛陀
The Tathāgata Amitāyus,
如來無量壽，
For the sake of supreme enlightenment. {53}
為了至高無上的菩提。
“Having heard this unsurpassable sūtra
「聽聞此無上經
They will not go in future
他們未來不會前往
To the lower existences
到較低的有
For seventy-three countless eons. {54}
經過七十三無數劫。
“Those who in future times
"未來的那些人們
Listen to this unsurpassable sūtra,
聽聞這部無上的經，
And keep it and read it,
並且受持與誦讀它，
Will all be honoring me. {55}
都將是在供養我。{55}
“I make this declaration
"我作此宣告"
To all those who are standing before me.
對於所有站在我面前的人。
I bestow this enlightenment gained with difficulty.” {56}
我將這個辛苦獲得的菩提賜予你們。
