Summary
s.1Just prior to his passing away, the Buddha Śākyamuni reminds his disciples of the importance of living with a qualified spiritual teacher. Ānanda, the Blessed One’s attendant, attempts to confirm his teacher’s statement, saying that a virtuous spiritual friend is indeed half of one’s spiritual life. Correcting his disciple’s understanding, the Buddha explains that a qualified guide is the whole of, rather than half of, the holy life, and that by relying upon a spiritual friend beings will be released from birth and attain liberation from all types of suffering.
s.1釋迦牟尼佛陀在即將般涅槃前，提醒他的弟子們與具德善知識同住的重要性。世尊的侍者阿難試圖確認他老師的說法，說善知識確實是梵行的一半。為了糾正弟子的理解，佛陀解釋說具德的引導者不是梵行的一半，而是梵行的全部，並且通過依靠善知識，眾生將被解脫出生，達到從各種痛苦中的解脫。
