Summary
s.1While the Buddha is residing in the Realm of the Thirty-Three Gods with a retinue of deities, great hearers, and bodhisattvas, Avalokiteśvara asks the Buddha how beings can gain merit from building a stūpa. The Buddha responds by stating the Buddhist creed on dependent arising:
s.1當佛陀在三十三天與諸天、大聲聞弟子及菩薩眾一起時，觀自在菩薩問佛陀，眾生如何能夠透過建造塔來獲得福德。佛陀回答說，並宣說了關於緣起的佛教信條：
All phenomena that arise from causes,
一切從因而生的現象，
The Tathāgata has taught their cause,
如來已說其因，
And that which is their cessation,
以及那些現象的滅盡，
Thus has proclaimed the Great Renunciant.
大沙門如是宣說。
The Buddha then explains that this dependent arising is the dharmakāya, and that whoever sees dependent arising sees the Buddha. He concludes the sūtra by saying that one should place these verses inside stūpas to attain the merit of Brahmā.
